I am looking to do lockers front and back but the price for air and e lockers are up there .Are there any streetable combonations that will work for a primarily weekend crawler ? Can I run a regular locker up front and spend the money in the rear? I just have no experiance with lockers of any kind. any help would be great.

Howdy! I run Lockrights in both ends. Inexpensive and effective. John

There are many debates that happen over and over on this board about what is streetable. My personal choice will be fully seklectable lockers. I don't want to have to change my street driving style to accomodate lockers.

A number of people here run Aussies with no problem. I believe they are about the same as a lockright, but if not, I'm sure somebody will come in and correct me.

For my Cruiser I wanted ARB's so instead of buying what I could afford at the time, I stashed away what my wife let me and 2 years later was able to get them. It sucks waiting that long for something, but in the end I'm glad I went the ARB route.

If you put a selectable in the rear then your pavement driving traits remain the same. What to put up front depends on budget and goals.

I have Aussie lockers in front and rear. They have been in for almost a year and work great. With the longer wheel base of the FJ60 and the automtic transmission in mine they are not very noticable on the road but are very noticable off road.

I would put one in the rear and try it. You will be amazed at what one locker will do for you.

I agree. If you aren't regearing, start with one locker. Put one in the back and see how far that will take you.

Agreed

I have an Aussie in the back only and the rig has suprised me with what it will do on the rocks.

Detroit: Thumbs down for street manners

No experience with an Aussie, but I have Detroit "Soft Lockers" in both a 112" wheelbase and a 129" wheelbase. They're great off road. Too bad I have to drive many, many miles of pavement to get them there.

If the budget will reach them I highly recommend something selectable.

i was wondering about the lockers myself, and to be honest, the 250 dollars for an auusie is right up my ally, i think i run the cheap route for the time being, well, until i actually get a career

Even once you get a career, $ never changes...General rule: you live up to your income.

I was amazed at how "mild mannered" the Aussie locker has proven to be on the pavement, and in the snow/ice. Great for off road as well. I'm actually now considering an Aussie for my front as well.

Oh, and I've had rigs with ARB air lockers, and would not go back. Simply too many points of failure. Just not my cup of tea. If I were to go selectable I'd go cable lockers.
Anyone got a set?;)

Here's my $.02 worth. My 60 has Aussie in rear only. Works great on & off road. My buddy put Aussies @ both ends of his 40, same results. I will be adding an Aussie to my front soon as well. I have a Detriot in the rear of my mini truck. Works great off road, takes some gettin used to on the road. Pops & jerks a bit. I have an ARB air locker in the front of my mini, It works great, has never failed me & the option of open when not needed is great. But the cost...WOW... I would not do it again. One other reason for not doin it again is Aussies are on all the time...ARB you gotta remember to hit the switch, not a big deal, but if you forget to turn it on & it's too late you might be stuck. If you forget to turn it off, steering sucks & it might be too late & you break a birf. I put longfields in after the first time I forgot to turn my ARB off.

I've had a lockright in the rear of my 60 for about a year and I don't even notice it anymore. There are little nuances that you have to get used to but they are nothing in comparison to what you gain offroad. I have a buddy with a Cherokee on 35s and a buddy with a CJ on 36s (both driven daily...HARD) and they both run lockrights in the front and the rear with no problems.

Don't let people scare you into thinking you will lose control driving it the first time on the street, or in the rain, or on snow. These are 60s, not hotrods, we aren't dealing with a ton of power here.

oh, and you can get a front and rear lockright for about half the price of just one air locker setup...

I have an Aussie in the rear and as everyone has said there is no problem driving on the road with it. I hope to get an ARB for the front but I might instead get an Aussie for the front, do the 2lo mod, and then eventually get some longfields.

Since I'm planning to get a FF rear end, I'm investigating the option of putting front FZJ80 3rd members in my truck (from what I've read, you need to use a front FZJ80 3rd on a 60's rear FF) and swapping out the electric actuators with the kit from Downey.

Haven't made up my mind yet on whether or not to go this route, since I'm still gathering info, but so far it looks like a viable option given that I really want cable lockers and this could be more timely to do than waiting to find real deal Toyota cable lockers.
