My GF uses the LC as her daily driver. The front brakes need replaced, and it's had a whine from the front diff since I bought it. There's a guy in Chandler that is a specialist in 80-series gears. I've changed replaced discs & pad on a handful of different vehicles, but when I did a search for a guide on how to do it on an 80-series, I was surprised to find there are more steps than usual. Something about hubs and birfields, and repacking hub bearings. I can follow a guide. Anyway, although it has been a while, IIRC, there is some overlap between the jobs of changing discs and pads, and pulling the front diff. My question is, how many hours (approximately) for each, so I can determine if it's worth it to do it all at once. I am pretty sick of the diff whine, but if it's a 3 hour job to change the front brakes, but 12 hours to pull the front diff, I'm thinking I'll procrastinate on the pinion bearing job, especially since once I pull the front diff, week or 2 before I get it back, etc. On the other hand, if most of the work is getting the wheel and hub off, maybe I should do it all at once. Please throw your two cents in if you've done either or both of these jobs! Thanks!

I would do all of the work at the same time. You already will have taken it down part way with the brake work. All of it is really not that hard or time consuming depending on your skill level. Only part that is bad about the thing is Molybdenum grease and a lot of it. But a couple rolls of paper towels will keep you happy!
I would just drop it off with @richardlillard1 if it's a DD - the front end rebuild can get squirrelly if you don't have the weird hub socket and right seals etc. He knows Zuk and can take the gears there for you too

Can probably do the front brake pads in an hour, if there's no complications, and its just in and out job. If there are complications (seems like there always are) 2-3 hrs.
Change the front brakes with clean and re-lube/re-load wheel bearings probably 3-4 hrs (plan a full morning).
If you're just tearing it apart to pull the diff, probably 2-3 hours tear down. Then an entire day to put it all back together. (haven't had this pleasure yet, judging it on others experiences and looking at what needs to come apart).

As stated above I'd do both at once and you need to read up/prepare to have all parts and services lined up if you want to minimize downtime. You should probably expect a little down time while the differential is being serviced which could can give you time to get the rest of the axle serviced while you wait.
Three work sessions could make sense with the first focused on pulling it apart and getting the diff to whoever will service if for you, the second covering cleaning/inspection/prep and partial re-assembly then the third work session covering diff install and reassembly of the rest.
