should have put in this section but here it goes was wondering if anybody have used agr before recently im thinking of using the rock ram kit for a 80 to 86 cj and making my own brakets or should i go with another company im running 41s i dont trailer my rig to the trail so i like the idea of hydro assist so it handles better on the road but i want the brute force off road with a move of a finger

You could tap your gear box yourself and build your own hydro assist for a lot less. I like the 80 series gear box personally. A link on how to:

A pic of how it could sit in your 40 with hoops.

I had a 90's era chevy truck saginaw PS box on my 40 and really liked it...
my .02... Really nice 40 you are building...

Fasteddie, agreed commonly refered to as a j20 box...

Do u guys have any opinions about arg rock ram vs. Psc. Boxes. I'd. Buy a box and tap it myself but steerings one thing I just want to work and not have to mess with toomuch after installed.

OK wait still looking at a j20 box what makes it Coles fast Eddie

J20 box at autozone p/n6508 $175 or a pick and pull yard. But when you get your taps for the hydro assist make sure you get one you don't care about because you have to cut some of it off. One of the holes doesn't allow the tap to get deep enough for the proper taper.

I used to have/run a scout box that i sent off to redneck ram to be ported for hydro assist, used one of their rams too.....no issues

I remembered wrong, i had a scout box on my FJ55, it was a saginaw box that came off a '76 monte carlo that i had on my 40

Personally I didn't like the 4 turn box, a while back I switched it up to a TJ box which is 3.5ish? Even going down to a 3 turn box would be cool for me.

The J20 box is cool with its bigger piston, but, since you are planning to go with a hydro assist right from the get go, the bigger piston benefit is negated and just adds $$ to your setup since they are relatively rare. If you want more power just get a bigger ram and personally, I would rather the ram do the heavy lifting as opposed to the box. I run a 1.75 ram which has been a good fit. Steering is a balancing act, between having enough power, and your pump being able to move enough fluid to steer quickly.

Drilling and tapping the boxes is easy, fyi
