Hi guys, well I finally have a little extra money and am coming close to due for another 90/100k mile service on my '99 LC (now at 186k with original water pump).

I'm learning quick and doing more and more on my own, but I think tackling the timing belt + water pump is probably beyond my abilities without a knowledgeable partner, a few extra tools than I have, and I can only wish for a lift though I'm not sure that's totally necessary.

Does anybody already know a great SF Bay Area mechanic/auto shop (anywhere within reason...Sacramento is probably too far though) that has a solid price for this work? I've heard some people finding dealers or Toyota specialists as low as $500, OEM parts inclusive (belt+pump anyway). I don't mind sourcing all my own parts (probably through Cdan or otherwise) and bringing them in, I just want to get a fair price for it all in the end, including the fact that I might give some extra parts to replace that I know don't require a second more effort to install than the old parts that already had to be removed to do the work I'm paying for to begin with.

As an alternative, if there is someone who REALLY likes working on LCs for fun and wants to hang out for a day to help, I'm game for learning more, making new friends and perhaps working something out that makes everyone happy.

Thanks in advance for the recommendations/referrals!

Hey man, go to Alvin's auto center in milpitas! He is certified by toyota but not as expensive!

Mipitas is closer to Fremont.... But there is also the Toy Shop in SF if you need another option.

^^^ Ditto for Gary Kardum aka Mudrak.

Spresso - you live in the Reno/Tahoe area....is this the Cruiser specialist you take your rig to when you have a problem?

I'd love to know who the best Cruiser specialist is on the East side of the Central Valley/Sacramento/Tahoe region.

Per beno...I do 99% of my own work. Sam Cothrun, SAMCO, has done some of the custom suspension work for me...but all the other stuff, not including the darn steering rack , I do meself.

Having said that Gary has worked on my rig (along with Andy, Tom, Onur, Ali, Jack...)...saved my butt too...out in the middle of BFUtah :)

Outside of Sonoma, where Gary aka Mudrak is located, I don't know anyone of his caliber...
