Hi guys, well I finally have a little extra money and am coming close to due for another 90/100k mile service on my '99 LC (now at 186k with original water pump).
I'm learning quick and doing more and more on my own, but I think tackling the timing belt + water pump is probably beyond my abilities without a knowledgeable partner, a few extra tools than I have, and I can only wish for a lift though I'm not sure that's totally necessary.
Does anybody already know a great SF Bay Area mechanic/auto shop (anywhere within reason...Sacramento is probably too far though) that has a solid price for this work? I've heard some people finding dealers or Toyota specialists as low as $500, OEM parts inclusive (belt+pump anyway). I don't mind sourcing all my own parts (probably through Cdan or otherwise) and bringing them in, I just want to get a fair price for it all in the end, including the fact that I might give some extra parts to replace that I know don't require a second more effort to install than the old parts that already had to be removed to do the work I'm paying for to begin with.
As an alternative, if there is someone who REALLY likes working on LCs for fun and wants to hang out for a day to help, I'm game for learning more, making new friends and perhaps working something out that makes everyone happy.
Thanks in advance for the recommendations/referrals!
