I'm building a '67 Toyota ToyoAce into a family 4x4 daily driver, weekend warrior. I am replacing the existing 2P (1198cc) engine and column 4 speed tranny with an 1989 22RE & 5 speed manual. Because the vehicle is a COE (cab over engine) engine is under the front seat. The transmission will be located under the rear seat. What is the best way to shift the relocated manual W56?
I was thinking of modifing a cable shifting Toyota MR2 shifter or a Honda Prelude shifter...
Idea's please

Thanks in Advance.

You may want to have a look for a remote shift G-series gearbox, I know these were used in the hiace vans, and the bellhousing pattern is the same as a W (the G is a weaker tranny though). Unfortunately the 4x4 hiaces are not really plentiful outside of japan, most of them will be auto. I'm not even sure a remote housing, 4x4 tail even exists. Worst case scenario you could go for an auto or a divorced t-case behind a 2WD remote shift.

If you're not afraid of fabricating you could copy what you have currently on the truck on the transmission end and keep the stock colum shifter ?

Go To Diedrich Drill Rigs And Look At The D-90 Series.
It Uses A Manual Trans With A Remote Operator, Works Good And Simple.

Hoagie

Believe it or not, there were plenty of 4x4 5 speed Vans in the mid 80's. I have the remote t-case shift cable from one, there's a post floating around about it.

Do a search on car-part.com and you should be able to find what you need.
