ATTN Coolerman need help

i have just replaced fuel pump, plugs wires cap oil etc

i broke a wire that was grounded to my engine hook it ran to where my coil mounts, here is a pic, long story short what is it and where do i get one (ccot sor maf etc) i could not get the engine to even start, would this wire cause it not even to turn over or nothing, battary is good, even the head lights wouldnt, i know i have a bad fuse, its the one closest to the floor board, if you have any ideas let me know.

its something that runs in conjunction with your points in your dist. if you changed your cap and rotor etc you should def change this out too. it will come in a kit, but i would look into changing over to a electric ignition system. got mine from SOR.

The metal cylinder is a condenser that probably was on or near the distributor. The wire probably runs to the distributor to condense [amplify] the spark. If the spark is not condensed the engine will not fire. Thats my best guess

The metal cylinder is a condenser, I believe its purpose is to prevent the points from burning out too quickly. The high voltage for the spark comes from the coil. Sorry, its been so long since I have looked at an F series engine I can't answer FR3533's question.

If your 75 is all stock them it has the GOOD points distributor. The condenser, as Kootenay pointed out is to help prevent the points from burning. It's possible the condenser is bad, but they rarely fail. Regardless, it, and the points and rotor should be replaced since you replaced the wires and cap. The broken wire will not be available from SOR or CCOT. Should be really easy to fix that or find a friend that knows how to repair this kind of stuff and buy him a beer!

But... First replace that fuse! I don't know what that fuse does on a 75 but on a 76 it's just a spare fuse. The IG fuse is the second from the bottom.

When you say it won't turn over, do you mean the starter will not engage and spin the motor? If that's the case (plus you mentioned the headlights would not turn on) you need to completely recharge the battery then continue trouble shooting.

on the condenser, where the wire pulled out, i took a razor and cut around the end of the condenser until i could get enough wire showing, can i just soder it back togther?

as for the location of the condenser mine is grounded to the engine hoist hook bolt the other end is hooked to the Ballast Resistor not the distrubiter.

also where do you get the foints for a nov 75 dist?

You could but I would probably use a mechanical crimp splice and heat shrink it

On the other hand if you follow the wire it will lead to a terminal that grounds to your distrib or the points themselves---just remove it and install a new one ----wire and all

you can get a condensor probably at the dealer or at sor.com or maybe even the auto parts as it is a common part

The condensors job is to keep the points from arcing and pitting by soaking up current induced in the primary coils by the secondary coils ---on the secondary coils the induced voltage jumps the spark plug gap but it is stronger the faster the primary collapses ---so the condensor also keeps the secondary from inducing a voltage in the primary and reducing the strength of the secondary---clear as MUD?

thanks for all the help, i bought a condenser at nappa not a factory on but i think it will work, i will try it out tonight.
