So, after 35+ years, my made-in-Japan Magnum floor jack finally burst its seals... I tried replacing the seals but it leaked worse, so I don't want to put anymore time into it...

Thus, I'm in the market for a GOOD (no Chinese, if possible, these days) floor, service jack, 3-ton, to lift cruisers and 1/2 ton pickups.

What are you all using? :)

Thanks!

I have an OTC Stinger 3 ton I bought new about 6 years ago. No complaints. Probably made in China but not crap.

I'd buy old American. Weaver, Walker, etc. and rebuild it. Last as long as you want.

Where do you get seals/parts ?

Any hydraulic service shop will have the seals common to the popular quality jacks, there are online business that cater to servicing jacks and thus would have 'kits' already set up for easy shopping.
Craigslist a quality old 'survivor' and order a rebuild kit. I have a quality floor jack often used by tire shops that I'll be ordering seals for soon. It weighs 90 lbs and will last longer than I will.

My old snap on blew a seal years ago so I purchased on from Costco at that time and still works great. 3 ton for 100.00 (prob a china unit).

Looks like my jack is a ZINKO (Japan made, but now sources to Taiwan) ... Turns out the West Coast distributor is in Ontario, CA, 'bout an hour from me. Website says rebuild kits are available. Will call Monday to verify.

But I can't find a serial # or anything like that on it...

Anyone familiar with Zinko ?

^^^Look for #'s on the cylinder.

So here is a dumb, loaded question... is there such thing as a "good" budget jack? I have been using my FILs 3-ton powerbuilt but sure that he will need it back at some point so I would like to purchase my own. Just really don't feel like spending an arm and a leg on one (have looked at my local Costco and no dice on theirs).

I'd love to have an air/oil floorjack that operates with air or manual pumping. Kinda pricey though.

I added oil to my ailing Craftsman jack, no improvement, and a few uses later something popped and it peed on the floor. I'm helping my dad move into a condo, he offered me his floor jack, and getting it home I see it needs some attention. So now I have two kinda-sorta working or maybe fixable floor jacks, making it hard to justify spending on a new one.

My Costco stopped carrying the Arcan 2.5T steel unit and replaced it with an Alum unit. Its a Chinese unit but for my money, I'm ok with their steel unit. The previous steel Arcan from Costco is still going strong after years of abuse. I hope they bring back the steel unit soon!

In Canada, Canadian Tire sells a 3.5 Ton jack, blue with a Michelin sticker on it. I got it on sale, ( always wait for a sale at Canadian Tire! ) for about $149. It is really good quality and lifts my 60 with a 12HT to full height with ease. It even has a foot pedal for quick raising to contact point, then it sort of slows down. I also bought the low profile (2") for lifting the corolla. The guy who owns local tire shop has the same jack at home, I got it on his recommendation.

I have had the Costco Arcan steel 3.5tons one for about 10 years. I like how it is very low profile so OK for low-slung car but quite high when open so it is helpful with the lifted truck. Check specs for your uses. Very sturdy, big, stable, and very heavy (close to 100lbs?)
Working just fine but admittedly I have not used it a lot, at the most 50 times in 10 years I'd guess.
Only slight complaint is the opening under load is a tad abrupt -but maybe that's why it's not leaking or slowly going down under load?
