I have two LX 470 now. a 99 and a 2000 model. both are great dependable trucks with no known problems. is there any advantage to trading into a 2007? personally the nav in the dash turns me off and scares me a bit about dependability. any comments would be appreciated especially about the nav.

Of course you should. You know how awesome these things are. 2007 is just more so. Don't worry about small things like nav and ahc. If it breaks, get it fixed and keep going!

Side air bags
5 speed
More HP
Back up cam

As my Toyota service director said - There are a lot of other things I would worry about before NAV. Very rare for failures and today can be repaired at a reasonably cost.

2007 Land Rover - Nope. 2007 Land Cruiser - Yep!
These things are constantly ranked the most reliable vehicles on the planet. I wouldn't sweat any reliability issues.
And yeah, more air bags, more horsepower, etc.
I hear ya on the Nav' though - not about the reliability, but more about relevance. I use my iPhone 10x more than the 100's nav. If you're buying the LX from a dealer, see if they'll throw in an updated nav DVD.

Keep in mind if one upgrades the NAV to date you will loose the hack of being able to use NAV when driving.

What Phil said.

We're all playing in the gap of appreciation that US consumers have for what is possibly the most reliable brand on the market, but go for it.

In my opinion, I would stay with the known LX's, depending on the mileage you have on them.

However, I will admit that my second most favorite LX is a 2007 in Cypress Pearl. Absolutely beautiful. However, I am super happy with my 2001's...and one of them is my favorite...Riverrock Green Mica with gray interior.

I would rather have a 2001 with upgraded exhaust and headers, no nav, and be able to throw a big sub-tank under it than a 2007 with the five-speed and VVTI and mandatory nav.

That being said, for a second or third LX, I would love to have a 2007...

I use my iPhone exclusively for nav, I leave the in-dash nav set to the trip display. Doesn't bother me one bit.

The difference between a 4 speed and a 5 speed with VVTI is HUGE gap having owned both at the same time.

My only experience between the two is when I drove my 2001 LX and a 2007 LC back to back in town and on the highway when I was thinking about buying the 2007. There was only a small gap that I could perceive (and I don't have headers or aftermarket exhaust on the 2001 yet). In your experience, in what driving conditions would that gap widen?

Thought the 2007 lost that hack.
My '06 had 'till I updated the DVD... just got the point where the 10-year-old map was missing too much.

I have no experience with the earlier LCs but I do have an '07. Its a great truck and very reliable. I wouldn't really worry about the nav too much like the comments above state. Just use your smart phone it updates itself whereas the dvd updates for the nav are ridiculously expensive.

The only reliability issue that I had was with the secondary air system which is only present on the 06-07 models. The valves are prone to failure, but fear not there is an easy fix. You can buy a bypass system as referenced in threads on this forum. Just type in aip or secondary induction system. Otherwise my ahc has been functioning well especially after a few mods needed to support the weight of accessories. I highly recommend this last model year. It's exceptionally comfortable and capable.

Good luck in your search.

We currently have both a 2000 & a 2006 in our household.

The 2003+ upgrade to the 5 speed is a significant improvement all by itself. (Most noticeable from a stop, and 1-2 shift)

The 2006+ upgrade to vvti seems less dramatic of an upgrade than the 5spd but it is also an improvement. (Most noticeable in the higher RPMs at the top of the lower gears)

I would argue that I felt the same jump in performance going from a 94 TLC to a 98 LX, that I did going from a 98 LX to an 06 LX.

How about you get a 200 series...? They are really good and you will feel like you really got a new vehicle. LX 570 or LC.

Get the 07 - I just moved from a 2000, to a 2004. 5-speed trans is a HUGE plus.

With regards to the 200 series - great truck. Better fuel economy, and tons of power. I went with an 04, because 5-speed, and, much lower purchase price than a vvti truck. 07's really creeps into 200 territory, in which case, I'd just buy a 200.

If you do end up with a 200, get a LC. The LX, in that series, seems a little overdone for me.

get a low mile one

Agree to all above, plus if you're "thinking" about it it's already too late right ;)...do it. I went directly to '06 for 5 speed plus the additional power. The NAV should be irrelevant in this purchase decision (the integration part a slight knock) but in no way affected getting what I wanted.

I'm not sure if you're aware but most of the '06 - '07 LC's came with AHC. Wouldn't deter me from buying one, but it's an added maintenance expense if you plan to keep it for a long time.

I don't know the price differential between an '07 LC and a 200, but I would go for an '08 LX570 if it was within $3K.

^^This
I would go for the '08 LC at a good price.
