How is the build comming? Always loved watching this thread. And with my headgasket possibly on its way out (time to go investigate) I am more inclined than ever to turbo this pig.

I've had some medical complications lately and am restricted to lifting only 10lbs right now. That's getting in the way of any real progress unfortunately.

But right now the engine is 97% done and needs to be installed in the truck.

Sorry to hear about the medical issue. That can take a real toll on you but makes you appreciate mobility and wellness even more when it is over.

Hope you get well soon and the rest of the build goes smoothly.

Motor's looking great

Hi Rick,

The motor is looking absolutely awesome. I'm eager to read more of your build and read about the install and tuning of it. I'm super eager to read about getting it dyno'd or some type of power measure.

Hope you get feeling better real soon.

Thanks for keeping us posted with this project. Really a neat process to see and read about.

I've already looked around and haven't found a 4 wheel drive dyno in the Boston area. Out in CA they seem to be on every corner.

Dent Sport Garage in Norwood, MA
Synaptic3 in Candia, NH

Two I have experienced myself back in the Subaru days.

Any news? How are you doing Rick?

I'm doing better thanks. I've had to take a break from it to get the family fleet ready for winter as well as knocking a few things off the homey do list.

I'm hoping to get the thing installed this fall. I am planning on a trip out west next year and this is the truck I'm taking.

a piggyback for what? are you talking about piggybacking the computer for more fuel management?

Hey LandTank, any further progress on the 80???

By the way, just for clarification, I just bought the Opel head stud kit from CNC too, and they say the studs are also undercut just like the Supra kit.

CNC-Motorsports.com is your resource for High Quality, Hi-Performance auto parts from industry names you trust. ARP Head Stud kit, Opel 2.5L Opel, 12 Point Nuts U/C Studs

I ordered them this morning and got an email 1hr later saying they'd be shipped the next day - it's good to see great service and good prices haven't disappeared just yet.

For the record, I ordered and received the Vauxhall Opel 2.5L studs (ARP Part No. 209-4702 ARP. After taking them to my engine builder, we noticed because the studs are undercut, they only threaded into the block down to where the shoulder of where they are under cut. Therefore, with the head in place, the thread for the nut stopped about 10mm short of the seating face of the head. It would have required the use of several fat washers to make up the space which was a very unacceptable solution.

I have since returned these in exchange for the Toyota Supra head stud kit, ARP# 203-4205 which are not undercut studs.

Ironically, it seems those who have used the Opel head stud kit as I ordered originally, received studs that weren't undercut - I've no idea how this seems to be the case when the part numbers are the same and it seems very strange indeed. Regardless, the Supra head studs have been used in the past with great success so I believe all should be good regardless.

The down side was it's cost me an extra $100 in freight to return the Opel kit and have the Supra kit sent out.

something is really wrong then. The studs I got where a total length of 5.0". The Supra studs are 4.5" in total length.

Now when I installed the Supra studs to where the shoulder contacted the block there wasn't enough thread on top to protrude through the nut. This has been observed by many members.

So a half inch longer stud should still allow the nuts to seat fully.

I think you need to do a little more investigating to figure out where the problem is. Others have ordered and used the Opel kit with out doing anything more than trimming two studs for the front two locations under the cam gears.

It sounds like you got studs that were 5.5" long.
