Fenders came in today and they are HUGE!!!! Had a hell of a time finding a 13" wide fender but glad I did. It'll cover the tires perfectly. I need to trim about 3.5" off the front and back to make them line up with the bottom of the frame. Pic is just showing width, fender will be mounted 4" above top of tire.

I spent $500 on mine, but considered it money well spent considering my non-existent welding skills. I tried looking for something big like that and didn't come up with anything satisfying. Those are sweet. It'll give the trailer sort of a retro-M100 look to it.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a lot of options and quite reasonably priced. I might have made a different decision on the fenders on our M101 CDN had I known about these folks. Still, I consider the money well spent and no one else has fenders quite like mine. Plus they are useful as a workbench, etc in camp.

That's the only drawback to the round ones, but they sure do look slick on your trailer. Looking forward to them in pics as the rest of things come together on your trailer.

Those fenders fit your trailer perfectly! Same rigid lines as the trailer & fit the form good.

Mostly my design, with a little input from my welder. That was exactly the effect I was trying for, to make it look like the folks at DEW (the Canadian outfit that built it) updated their design for use behind something a wee bit larger than an Iltis.:D
 
FINALLY got to take it down the road! It bounced a bit but that's to be expected being empty. Not to mention the tires had 50psi in them & they never have been driven on. Tracked straight & no clunking. It sits a bit nose high right now but I expect the nose to drop a bit once it's loaded for camping, which 99% of the time it will be. There'll be a ~20gal. tank in the very front of the box so that'll level it out. Also the rear of the truck will have more stuff & will sink too. Been waiting forever for the 16g cold steel to come in. Hopefully by next week.

I meant to say thanks for posting the 13" fenders. I've been looking and up here, they just don't exist so I didn't think
I could get them. Now I can complete my own project! J

Yeah, I sure couldn't find any. Nice as custom fenders are, the bolt-on ones are far more cost-effective.
 
Been waiting for eternity for the local steel place to get 16ga. cold rolled sheet (so there's no mill scale) in but they still haven't. Guess I'm going w/hot rolled sheet. Ready to get this thing rolling!
Question:
If the mill scale is smooth & attached well is there any reason to remove it or can I primer/paint right over it? Really don't want to sand/grind sheets!
 
If it's not too late you should inquire about hot rolled pickled and oiled. It has the mill scale removed chemically, then coated with light oil. It's what I use on my plasma table.

I've asked 3 different shops for it in the last 2 weeks. 2 never heard of it and the other said they can't get it. Thanks anyways!
 
They may only know it by the "HRP&O" moniker.
I started with HRP&O and none of them knew so I said it outright. No dice. These are rather large steel supply companies too! Maybe it's not used down here in the south much?
 
A little progress today. Got sides tacked on and one fender. Realized I need some 1x1" tubing to brace the front, rear and floor. Also realized I measured the damn floor wrong so wasted $50 on that sheet. Measured it at least 4 times. I don't know how I messed it up! Fenders cover tires and good as I could've hoped for.

Forgot to post a couple new pics. Got all the sheet metal done (except for lid) and built a rack for my cooler. Stiiiiiiiill working on it but it's damn near useable one I put the lights on it (putting them on top of the rear 'steps')and get a license plate. If it's not raining tomorrow I'll get at least that much done, minus the license plate.

Finished welding the floor in and primed/painted the bottom. Flipped it back over and will start painting top side here soon. Its maiden voyage will be to Hidden Falls Adventure Park next weekend so I've got to get busy!

Got temporary paint on it so it'd be ready to head out tomorrow. Once paint is a bit drier I'll put the brake lights & license plate on. Trailer sits a bit lop-sided because the tire on the PS is a 285/75/16 & the one on the DS is a 295/75r16. Didn't have the funds to buy another tire & wheel before this trip.

Does it tow straight with the mismatched tires?
 
It does. Took it on it's maiden voyage, about 400 miles round trip, & it did great. I had a buddy make a video of it going thru a decent trail (beginning of a 3 rated trail) & it worked perfect. I don't plan on using it rock crawling but it handled it w/out any issues.
