That's fair. To me it's a modern take on a wagon wheel. The steel wheels with caps do nothing for me and there's just so few options with adequate set back.

Road conditions were pretty much perfect the entire way. Between Colorado and Wyoming, the two lane road we were on was really nice. Smooth with a 75mph speed limit. We were rolling 80-85 most of the way trying to get up to the Big Horns before snow hit.
Really couldn't have asked for more.

Even though my rig is a long ways away, I can still screw around with projects.
The wheels don't have a center cap available, so I'm just going to make my own for the rear.
In the software.
Test cut in MDF. MDF is a good cheap way to test. I measured the hole in the wheel as a little less than 4-3/16 with a tape measure. I don't have a caliper that would fit and get an accurate measurement. That's pretty close to 106mm, so that made sense to me and I cut the first one at that number. Too tight. The second test run is on the machine right now. I dropped the size to 105.5mm. That should be a good fit.
13 minutes of run time on the cnc.
Took me a minute to figure out how to get the software to dome the top face. I like how it turned out.
and in the wheel. I'm thinking I'll have to drill a hole at a shallow angle, and tap it for a set screw to hold it in place. That's going to be a royal be-otch to not have it look like garbage.

Are hubs going to clear on the fronts? We have a lot of problems with that and have to clearance wheels to fit the hubs.

Depending what the shape of the face of the rear is like, (I never looked at it with this in mind), I might be able to hold these in place with some neodymium magnets?

A quick google search came up with a mud thread where somebody said they bore wheels to 4.175" That's probably exactly what I am at. if it's 106mm, that's 4.173"

Ordered up some stereo parts.
Retro sound head unit. I wanted to do something with a screen. Mostly I was looking for navigation and I was also thinking front and rear cameras would be nice to have. I just didn't like any of the options going that route. My dash has been cut a bit for a stereo, but not hacked up too bad. I'll put a tablet in a ram mount clamped to the passenger grab bar if I want navigation. This will give me tunes and the ability to connect to my phone for music.
Shallow 6½" speakers for the doors. I'm going to butcher my new door cards at some point and order another set to remain unmolested and sitting on the shelf for the next owner. My current door cards are toast, so I won't feel bad cutting into them. I'm not sure how I want to run the wires yet.
6x9's in the rear in the corner of the tub. Got a good start today coming up with a box and getting a decent fit. I'm not sure I've got enough clearance to the roll bar. I'm also not sure how I'm going to fasten it down. Final box I'll make from ¼ plywood and wrap in fibreglass. Then paint or hose down with bed liner.
The back edge, I'll use a bendable plywood and wrap around that radius.
A buddy of mine has a 40 project that was disassembled, but no real work started on yet. So while I don't have my rig, I do have access to a tub to check fitment and mull over ideas.

Hmm. It's going to take some effort to work around that roll bar. I'm guessing I'm pushing way, way too far forward at the moment.
I'll have to rethink how this will work and it'll take some effort to tuck it more into the corner. I'm thinking the face will have to be raked back to get the top face lower and sneak under the lip of the tub. Maybe that back side can just be notched for the lip.

Rear axle shafts. Recommendations on getting new?
My originals were toast. When I had both axles rebuilt, I got a set of used shafts from Classic Cruisers, and they were way better than what I had, but still not terrific.
I have to pull the axles anyways to put the locker in, so I might as well drop new ones in at that time.

Do your rear axle shafts have pressed on races for the bearings? If so, curious how you removed and replaced as I'm about to do the same.

I bought 6½" for the doors. I am pretty confident I will have to make a spacer to push the speaker into the cabin a bit. I'm not sure how much though. My plan is to tape off where the door card is, then use a piece of plexiglass or lexan to figure out the speaker placement. I think that part would be pretty straight forward.
Hindsight, I would've gotten the same speaker for the rear. It would've been much easier to build something for a 6½, rather than a 6x9. It's totally doable, it's just gonna take a minute to figure it out. I don't have my rig, so I'm kinda pissing in the dark as to how to handle it. It's one of those things, if I had it in front of me, 20 minutes and some cardboard, I could probably come up with a good idea.
Just so you know, JP has a design that works great for that. I've folded up and installed several sets.

Yeah, that was kinda my inspiration, and what I'm modeling the idea off of.
Some things, I'm just willing to open the wallet and pay for them. Some things are just fun to figure out though. And I like putting my own spin on them.
