Wow, i bet they make a killing off that kit!

What seats are those? I like them. Everything looks good.

it still seems pricey. I would think for $400 you could get a professional welder for 1/2 day and fab you own pretty easily. The design is pretty good. Thanks for the post BSmith

I searched for a welder here I was quoted 150 and hour 6 hour minimum by the only one that would even agree to come out

I guess that is just the area I live in

one reason I went this route is that I am in a time crunch---more time and I would of held out and found a better deal

but seems like you could make some money with a pipe bender and a welder eh?

"How do you access the toolbox under the drivers seat?"

You can pull it up a little and slide it forward and out and still put stuff in it

installation is the reverse of removal:)

bench seat

yeah, maybe if you have one

A lot of people may have the same prob as me with a small suburban garage. When I started ripping my rig apart I had no room to store things and work on it so I had the bench and eng and tranny hauled off

The frame is integral to the bench but if you cut off all the spring mounts etc it might work

The tubing is pretty light duty on the OEM

mount

Both this tank and and cage seat mount set up are pretty sweet. Maybe someday when I am not broke from the build process:p:p

Looks like you could abbreviate this set up and make a nice seat mount only if you wanted I think I might even keep the part that goes up in the back

anyone else see a good set up for bench to bucket?

The PO of my 69 mounted a couple jeep buckets on the original seat frames. Worked real good. I pulled em as the PO also had a restored set of original benchs so I put those in instead. I may go back to the jeep seats this summer once I take the top off though.

Who makes the tank in the 2nd picture in your post. I would like to have something like that in my truck.

I did this many years ago. It was one of my first mods and the mod I am least proud of. But it worked. And I did it with virtually no tools for almost no money in the living room of my apartment.

I retained the base frame from the driver's seat and bolted a ghetto-fab framework on top of that to bolt a bucket seat to. It's actually ok other than being super-amateur-looking.

For the passenger seat, I was planning to build a new frame to mimic the factory one, but I ended up disassembling the seat anyway since someone across the country just wanted the cushion and cover to save on shipping. So I cleaned up and painted the bench seat frame then bolted () some flat stock rails front-to-back across the top of the tubes and mounted the seat rails to those. It works, but as you said the tubing is extremely thin and I would definitely not recommend it.

They are always expensive, but the quaility and the finish was always impressive. I use to deal with them when in I lived in San Francisco and they were still in California.

I would have thought that set would have been more of a bolt in for the cost and I appreciate the heads-up. I am in an urban enviornment and can't do much fab work and look for bolt in soloutions whenever possible.

If anyone does build a nice front seat bracket for buckets I would be interested. I am currently looking for a nice set of heated seats that will fit in the FJ40. I would really like a set of air ride seats to smooth out the bumbs. I have yet to accomplish drinkinig a cup of Starbucks coffee while driving without spilling it all over myself.

seat bracket

So is anybody making a frame to convert from bench to bucket? I am capable of welding, just not the bending and finessing necessary to make it look like it is suppose to be in the rig.

seat mount

Since I did mine I've seen one made from the original frame and it turned out pretty good

if you have a welder you can probably come up with something pretty decent --maybe using the stock toyota bucket mounts as a start

I think the stock frame modified for buckets would probably be the least work

Post up when you do sort it out
