Propeller mount

I had to cut out the frame support on my 73 to make room for a 4 speed transmission. If I am using a propeller mount for my 73 FJ40 do I still require a frame support or will the mount itself suffice for lateral support?

Hate to answer your question with a question, but do any other parts of your frame have rubber cushions as part of their basic structure?

I guess your swapping out the engine too? Folks in past have been able to retain the tube crossmember when adapting a stk 4 speed to the stk engine.

If you can, you should move or replace the crossmember. It's welded on the inside and outside of the frame. I think there was a vendor who offered a replacement tube in the past. My sbc/nv4500 has really no hope of reinstalling the crossmember, my sbc/sm420's crossmember was replaced by a different design incorporating a trans mount.

9/72 the frame changed on the FJ40. Torque tube changed shape to clear the hand brake drum better. Is also moved back a little because a four speed was being used in some markets. See no reason to use a propeller mount unless you running a V8 with a bellhousing that has no provision to use the standard motor mounts. V8s move the transmission/transfer case forward. The brake drum on the transfer case clears the torque. The propeller mount is further forward then the hand brake. Over thirty years ago I installed a H42 in my 68. Did not have to modify the frame or tub. I used a transmission cover from four 74-78. That required some modification but allowed extra height and using boots four speed shifters. The 9/72+ three speed transmission cover is the same as the four covers from the same period. The four speed shifter is centered on the transmission. Three speed is offset so hole is the cover is in a different location

Thank you, unfortunately I already cut the tube out however I will bolt it back in with a flange on to the plate that I welded in for the propeller bracket (Centered over the original tube). Learning curve.........
