NO, it's not !

Of course my FJ-43 is NOT a Bandeirante !

Bandeirante was made in Brazil, under license of Toyota,
with a diesel engine, and it looks very different.

Mine is a japanese Land Cruiser FJ-43, longer than FJ-40,
it was made to be exported to other countries but not to
U.S.A.

Everything in my FJ-43 (mechanically) is abosutely authentic
japanese Toyota :
(engine, transmission, transfer, brakes, clutch,
water and gas pumps, distributor, carburetor,
body, chassis, painting color, suspension (leaf springs), manual
steering, glasses).

is that a 80 series steering colume in it? whatever it is.....it was not originaly to that 43

its nice........and very RED :) now I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure parts(or more) of it have been repainted

interesting a 78 with the parking brake on the floor, its the brake on the tcase of rear axle?

not to mention the top.....but have now seen a few of those(or similar) does it come off?

front fenders look odd to me.....

turn signals are off of a 70 series......which was not around in 1978.....

cool 43 regardless.

LandPimp :
Thanx for your comments.

You are right in steering column is an adaptation. It is not originally
of FJ-43.

The car is re-painted recently, but originally it had the same color red.
That model came in soft-top version, and the actual hard top (Fiber
glass) was made and adapted locally.

Parking brake is on the t-case (rear axle).

I dont know what you mean with "front fenders are odd ...", but
im pretty sure that front fenders are original.

I 'm not sure about stock turn signals.

Thanx for your comments again.

Front fenders look wider than they should be..... maybe because the turn signal aren't mounted to the like they should be.? The front directionals are definatly from a 70 seris not a 43. That is an odd rear door setup..... I like it though.

Looks like a nice 43 that has had a few changes (upgrades?:meh:) to it. I'd take it none the less and put her back to stock including the canvas softtop that it should have.....

Also, with it being a 1978..... shouldn't the bezel be square?

I am not trying to be a jerk, I am just asking..... like I said it's a nice Cruiser

I 'm not sure about stock turn signals.

I think those are what they used in a lot of the trucks in central & south america. My buddy has those on his big 'ol 75 troopy he got from Germany. Regarding the Banderiante, the tubs have different markings/indentations. Nice Toyota you have.

79-84 had square bezels.

As you can see in this page

(choose Toyota, model FJ).

there are a lot of FJ-43s in Colombia, with the turn signals
mounted like mine.

I thought it were original, because more than 90% on FJs
here have the turn signals in front identical to my FJ-43.

That is because the orignal turn signal replacements are not really avalible to central and south america and you would pay a fortune. They use the 70 series because they are still in production and the aftemarket 70 series turn signals are dirt cheap. I have a pair of 70's turn signals and have bought others in the past.

Do you have fiberglass molds for that hardtop? I always thought it would be cool to have a light hardtop for when you are on the trails and just want to pull it off as a one man job.

Nice Land Cruiser and welcome!

I have the 70 series signals on mine. I chose them not for the reasons of OEM unavailability, or price (the set of used genuine Toyota 70 signals on mine cost $200), but because they are an improvement over stock - less vulnerable to coming loose from impacts, unlike the stock signal which sits upon a slender pedestal.

This is the only turn signal I have ever broken. :D

Hi-jack over.

I like that FJ43, but all that red........ ahhhh my eyes, but of

course.... different folks.. different strokes.

Thanx

Thanx for all of your replies.
There are lots of FJ-43 in Colombia. They are as common as
FJ-40 (short wheelbase).

My FJ-43 is one of the best i have seen in my country
in stock condition, and it is not modified for extreme off-road (yet),
but stock Toyotas are really strong : "From the factory to the forest".

Columbia has two things that are not common here

1) those tops...i have seen many rigs with that exact same top configuration...NICE ! definatly area/region specific

2) 70 series turn signals...also NICE and area/region specific.

x10 definatly not a bandi...but that has been well established at this point...as well as NICE RIG :)

Just throwing this out there...Toyota was doing alot of CKD in south america...i wonder if these vehicles were ckd's and then assembled with area specific goodies? ....CKD's need not be completely dissasembled rigs (SKD)...but most cases they were

can we see more detailed pics of the top...interior pics...of top?

pic of vin tag?

also looks like the fenders have a mounting hole for the fender turn lights...is it just an indent? or was there a hole? bondo'd over hole?

Welcome to ...mud...and thanks for the pics :)
