I personally had two sets of "custom" engineered springs from Alcan fail. Set one went completely flat within 100 miles of home and ruined a Moab trip. Set 2 dropped 4" of height within 1000 miles and put a serious strain on an Alaskan trip. Not to mention the 4 ruined tires. If you have a heavy 60 series I would look at OME only, period ..... been there done that already. Bob

I 3rd that and also would like to know how you lost 4" of height unless you were running a huge SUA lift, which woudl cause issues as well.

As with every post when I reccoment Alcans just get them to make the springs a little longer to help with the shackle angles.

Well, this is it... My old rears are off, new ones going on, pics soon, hopefully.

I'm seriously wondering if I can get it out of my garage when I'm done.

You could always air down..... a lot.

That's the option in the lead right now. :D

Also expecting hilarious stink-bug effect, coupled with itty-bitty 27" tires. Should be pretty entertaining for passers-by until I get some 35"s.

Our garages should be roughly the same height...
I get mine in and out SOA with 35's...
Cant wait to see the stink bug rollin around the hood!

Glad to hear that the works commenced!

I havent seen any smoke bellowing from your place so I assume all is well!

Keith - Hell, yes - it feels damn good to be working on it right now. :D

Cruise by sometime tomorrow, I'll be under the beast all day. Hopefully I can get the rear all buttoned up; I had to be creative with some bushing diameters, but it's going o.k. Also trashed a shackle pin, but I'll get a call in to Man-it's-not-free tomorrow and try to get one in the mail. But, yeah - you can come by, cold beer's in the fridge.

Enjoy

Oh and Mace confirmed that they actually haven't sagged, still 5"

Hey, trapper - do you happen to know what length shocks you're running?

I'm thinking of going with Bilstein 5150s. Have you measured your rig for shock lengths, Trapper?

I had...

I had 5150's on my FJ55, don't remember what size they were. Don't forget to buy a set of the post replacement fittings for the top front. I have to take the shocks off and stuff each corner to find max compression and max extension for the 60 but haven't yet.

Well, that's on the list for the weekend... stuffing and measuring. Hopefully you can help me, Chicago...

So I'm 1/2way done with the lift... I think the front will go MUCH faster than the rear, since I know what the F I'm doing now! :D

Some Stink-bug pics with itty-bitty 27"s.

hopefully your shckle angle will look alot better when you get some weight on the tires. Did you order them 1" longer in the rear like mentioned several times on the web?

look fwd to seeing front picks.

I did indeed get them made longer in both the front and the rear... Charles made them for me to accomodate a receiver hitch, bumper w/spare and full jerrycans, ARB+winch up front, and 300lbs. of gear, plus a full-time passenger. So the shackle angles (front and rear) should be much better with all of that weight in there...

So, any new updates? I am eager to see how it turns out. I have the same springs in the mail from Alcan. Have you decided on which shocks to go with? Post some more pics if you can. Could you take a final overall height measurement once you have finished. Good luck with the rest.

Thanks,
