Got any pics of the back???

Thinking of setting up a similar thing in the back of my troopy...

none that i can find and its actually all removed at the moment for a tidyup and some reorganisation and trying to squeeze dual batterys in the back without cutting into the flat sleeping area

so ill get some pics and post up when im reassembling it all

been slowly working on this ended up remounting the intercooler to make it straight didnt notice it till i looked at it from a distance and it was crooked

also decided to start repairing a few rust spots that its had since i brought it 2 years ago

2 repair along the drivers seat in the floor so choped them out and welded some new steel in
also plated and sealed about 20+ holes in the trans cover and rear floor that po's had drilled into it

so hopefully it will be running and driving again late this week

another quick update did around 100kays today in it running great and keeping cool
also got to test out the cruise control that i fitted and its awesome keeps the speed stable and means i can be a lazy sob

back gome after a 650km round trip in the troopy AWESOME is all i can say

drove great got a little warm giving it abit at 100kays up through windy mountain pass but considering before id be at full throttle doing about 50 in 3rd gear and it cruised up the hills at 100 i was stoked

got a slight gearbox leak so ill have to investagate that no engine leaks at all didnt use a drop of oil

now for a bigger turbo so i can be off boost abit more

first damage is a fubar zorst manifold gasket on cylnder 1 seems that the bolt there has came loose

owell i have to remove the manifold this weekend to fit a new flange for this

nice low km garret gt4082

specs looks perfect for the landcruiser should still have full boost by 3000 and should happily keep boosting till 6000(not that ill ever rev a stock engine that far)

just means it will be more drivable on the freeway and long distance wont be on boost as much so i should use less fuel

wow been a LONG time since updates

well the new turbo arrived and SCARED ME it was heaps bigger than i expected so i canned fitting that to the 45 it now sits on the shelf waiting for a mate to be convinced that a turbo on there v8 would be a good idea

so a few small tweeks of the turbo wastegate actuator saw me getting much nicer boost curves and no more spikes but only 5psi but thats still oodles for the street and highway

then i ripped the rear diff out and set about fittign a fj60 diff i had lying about and well 5 months later its drivable again i was totally slack and demotivated but after going camping over easter and nealy getting my pos car stuck i deceided to finish it

so that is all done apart from a handbrake cable i will have to get made up

ive also refitted the winch after i damaged it over a year ago and also just today sprayed the bullbar and am ready to bolt it back on once the paint dries

i'm still watching this thread, would be interested on where and how much your custom handbrake cable ends up being.

60 rear end sounds like the go. what are you doing for the front?

QLD regulations have got most of my future plans in the "too hard basket" for the time.

damn engineers, i'm almost suprised to not need one to change the oil!:bang:

cheers
crusty

yeah im nervous about the cable ive been told the hdzj79 is a straight boltin but at $125 id rather price a custom made one first

im planing on fitting a 60 diff to the front and i have one with perches moved to suit the 40 spring spacing but not really happy with it and also i just wanna drive the 45 and have some fun in it

another fortnight and still not much done

got the bullbar finished up and bolted back on and got to test out the winch and its working good with a total rebuild

i also made my own custom twinstick setup with the 60 series 5 speed in low4 the gearleaver was digging into my leg so the twinstick was a simply solution

also ive removed the rear draws as they where pretty stuffed and i just wasnt happy so ill rebuild them outta steel tube and aluminium so there lighter than the mdf draws

and i noticed under them was getting some bad surface rust so ive wire wheeled it and rust killed it and then sprayed it all with a sound deadning paint

Nice bull bar........looks like a beast mate

Nice mechanic's pit- I'm jealous. I wish you lived in SA:). Once you get it outside, could you post a pic of the rear tyre sticking out looking from front to back? Thanks! I can't wait to see what the front axle looks like.

Cheers,

Josh

yeah the pit is great a little bit shallow for a car but perfect height for the 4x4

lots of pics will be taken tomorrow and also some video hopefully im taking the cruiser down to heathcote raceway to run it down the 1/4 mile just for fun see what the turbo makes a troopy do

boo troopy is not happy LOL getting VERY HOT at freeway speed i ended up calling it quits after 20km and turned around grrrr

now to work out whats causing it
running rich/lean
turbo too small
intercooler too big
it hates me

radiator is stock brand new less than 1000km on it
waterpump is new 200km on it
all new hoses and clamps

anyone got any ideas
