i just purchased a fine Amazon green 200. The problem is that it is 925 miles away. I haft three options:

1. Pay an auto shipper to bring it to me. I've done this three times - 1 of which the car (Mercedes) fell off the semi on the highway and was totaled, causing me a year of litigation to get repaid by the shipper. 2nd time, a BMW 5-Series that suffered heavy damage due to a loose chain clanking all over it for 360 miles. 3rd was Lexus LX 470, which arrived fine except they knocked the rearview mirror off the windshield.

Cost to ship: about $700

2. Fly to New Orleans and drive it home. Cost: About $800 plus a sore arse and a day and a half.

3. Pay someone to go get it on a trailer and bring it back. Best quote so far is $1500.

Suggestions ?

I think the universe has already answered this inquiry based on your previous experience. My suggestion, fly out and drive it back. I bought my rig 650 miles from home, I flew out and drove it back...loved it.

Mine shipped from Houston to Chicago for $585. It had a cracked windshield (several star cracks) which I assume was due to transit, but might have been like that on the dealer lot. The dealer in Chicago agreed to replace it though.

If you've already closed the deal i would fly down and drive it back. That way if you get there and there is a problem you can call the dealer on it before you take possession. Otherwise of there's a problem the dealer can claim it was the shipper.

Seems if it wasn't for bad auto shipping luck, you'd have no luck at all...

Being that you located the best color 200 series get in the saddle and roadtrip it home, your arse will thank you...

Aaron at Summit moved my 60 for me from CO to NC. Nothing wrong and a good deal. I'm sure they are able to make sure you are covered. Check his thread in the Classifieds Mudship section

There are really good shippers out there. They will take better care than you do. You can track it by the mile if that makes you happy. Sunday, Interstate, Passport and Reliable are names we use for race cars and show cars. But I would just fly over and drive it back.

A road trip is a great way to get to know your new rig! I drove 10 hours each way to pick up mine and it was some great alone time!

Get a great book on CD and you'll get some culture while your at it! :)

Drive it man!

Drive it... I flew to Va dealer picked me up in mine and overnighted it home...agree with the above great way to get to know your new rig.

The reason I would drive it is it gives you a chance to inspect it if you haven't paid 100% already.

No way you get a sore arse in a 200 - I just completed a 6,000 mile road trip in my LX - with a few 800-900 mile days. These things are the fantastic mile-eaters. I say drive it!

Well, I have some interested takers in going down to get it and trailer it on a single trailer for $1000. I like that option best. Especially since this is back to school week and I'm so busy with kids stuff.

I feel like I know the vehicle because another forum member here traded it in where I am buying it. They had it for 2 months. I suppose they could have dinged it or something, but they sure didn't describe such and believe me I asked!

The option that feels right to you is the best one as there really isnt a wrong answer here

I say drive it.

Another vote for flying down & driving it back. It's only 900 miles!

1000% agreed. We just got back from a ~3800 mile road trip. Last leg of the trip was ~1400 miles from Jackson Hole back to Chicago. We did ~15 hours the first day and 8 hours the second (could've done it all in less but pulling the travel trailer I didn't drive faster than 75). It was the first road trip I've done where my legs and back didn't ache.

I have changed my mind about the fly over drive back gig.

Buy a clapped-out 50cc Honda moped. By strapping on extra fuel and 2 cycle oil you can make the 900 miles in less than 24 hours because of the prevailing winds. Arrive, sleep in the visitors lounge, throw the Honda in the back (it will leak gas but that is OK) and drive straight through to windy Amarillo . You will appreciate the new truck forever. Post up your tale here and be famous. Hauling it or flying gets you next to no kudos. Your choice. You only go around once. Some don't manage that.

I bought mine in STL and drove it back ~820 miles and enjoyed getting acquainted with it while day-dreaming about all the mods that were about to ensue... I hammered it home tho and made it in under 12 hrs straight through, and while I might have had that hypnotic 1000 yard stare when arriving home, I didn't have a sore arse - the 200 is comfy!

Out of the box thinking. I like that.
