Hmmm... seems that might be a good site to use as a bargaining point for local places that promise to price match.

Definitely. However they were backordered locally, so no luck this time around. I will be lucky to have the last tire here by Monday, a full week after paying for it. The warehouse is about 300 miles from me. The last tire ended up 225 miles from me.

UPS didn't get the tire again today. I had to call treadepot... Again... They FINALLY agreed to ship another tire to me and just have the "lost" one returned to them. Should be here Monday. Crossing fingers!

Changed the oil today... :-)

Decided to try the Bosch filter. This thing is MASSIVE! Fit perfectly, though.

I had added a half-qt of ATF to it a few days ago (very high in detergents) to clean out any varnish. Before I put it in, the oil had 1400 mikes on it and was a nice honey brown 5W30. It came out jet black today. I mean opaque ink. Nasty. Put the 15W30 in and the oil pressure is back to normal. With the 0W30 (dealer) once the engine was warm, the needle was riding low at idle and under the 1/3 mark at highway speeds. Not necessarily bad since it was extremely low viscosity causing less backpressure on the system which allows increased flow. I'd rather have higher pressure to balance flows and thicker oil with less leakage though.

Getting ready for the new meats... Painted the center caps yesterday. Didn't like the metallic silver that I had, so I tried some Rustoleum Hammered Black. More of a dark Charcoal, I like it. Seriously thinking about some ALs liner on the cladding and flares after I get front and rear bumpers on.

Tires finally mounted...

Liking the look! Just need a spacer for the fronts!

So, looking at designing and building some bumpers. Already build a front and a rear for other trucks.

Rear I built for my '99 4Runner (drawn in CAD, but built via cut/fit/cut/fit/weld/grind) :D

Front I built for my '00 Hundy via CAD and CNC Plasma.

After:

This time around, I'll have just the thicker plate cut on the CNC and the thin sheet will just be folded via a buddy's 60-Ton press that he's itching to use.

I'm thinking that I want to go with an exposed winch up top, with smaller profile wings and some radiator protection in the center that will double for light mounting point.

Something similar to this:

Or maybe this:

I'm much more partial to the top design above, but it doesn't offer much protection for animal/deer impacts, which would be a primary concern here - hence the second one. I still haven't decided on how I want to handle the upper/hoop portion. Maybe just use sch40 A53B pipe like I did on the UZJ bumper...

Anyway, starting the layout and will post build pics! :hillbilly:

BC,

Interesting on the filter. Looked it up online and on the intrawebnetz it says it doesn't fit. More info please!

Should the ATF add be part of a baseline for a newly gotten LC?

Thx!
Mike

Really? I didn't seek it out, but have long been a fan of using a larger filter for lower pressure drop across the media. I saw it on the shelf, looked up my application in the book, and grabbed the filter off the shelf according to the book. Didn't even look up the Bosch info until it was installed.

DistancePlusâ„¢ Oil Filters

It was around $10, but they have a $5 rebate off right now too.

According to Amazon's "does it fit" tool, this is the right one (D3500) for my 96 LX450.

On using ATF - it's helps to dissolve varnish and gummy oil residues so that you can get them out via a drain. You don't want to do this and drive 1000-miles due to the potential of the crud clogging up the oil filter. I drove maybe 20 at most before changing things out. Using ATF is similar to using Seafoam or BG44 in the crankcase - but MUCH cheaper. I'm a believer. If you're going to do this, you might as well do some seafoam in the intake to clean the intake and exhaust valves and any piston deposits. Since you're doing that, clean the MAF and Throttle Body too! Might as well throw in some new plugs when you get done changing the oil, and if it's been a while, new plug wires, distributor, and rotor won't hurt. (sound like baselining yet???) :D

Awesome, thanks for the info. I put in "1997 Toyota LC" in Amazons search and it sad no :(

Wrecked my 80 awhile back and I'm on the hunt for another one. Interested in getting a new to me rig and getting it all sorted out and setup properly.

I was using the big Toyota filter on my 94, but I like the way you think.

Thanks!
Mike

I've been using a good quality AFTERMARKET (WIX, Mobil, Napa Gold, etc) for a 1995 Ford Taurus 3.0 V6 oil filter for about 8 years now in all my toyotas. They are the same diameter and thread pitch as OEM toyota, but they are ~50% longer. There is also one for a Mazda that is about ~75% longer. This thing is 300% more filter media surface area!

Did a refurb on the grille and trim today. Sanded, primed, and painted with some Duplicolor Metallic Gray and Satin Black.

HWP102 "Graphite" High Performance Wheel Paint was a near-perfect match for the metallic gray in the LX wheels.

A few "after" pics sans chrome/bling... (yes I am missing the pass side trim under the headlight...)

IH8RUST.

Took the roof rack off only to break off 2 screws, drill out two more, and find rust under all 4 feet. The "ribs" on the roof were OK, so I just re-sprayed them and put them back on. Going to have to get some Al's sooner rather than later to fix the roof.

Also, worked on this for a few hours last night. Thoughts?

The purpose is for more clearance, house a winch, provide some frontal protection for animal impact, and overall protection for trees, etc (no rocks here). Going to have to relocate the AC dryer, but no biggie there.

Can you elaborate on the aluminum radiator.

NOT ALUMINUM. Sorry. All-metal, and no plastic, but NOT aluminum. I corrected the mistake in the first post.

Andy, that bumper looks sick! Kinda like a TJM, and Slee made sweet love...I'd also be interested in that but with a combo bar for the top half.

Thanks! Yeah, and I may change the center to a combo bar. Looking at both... Probably getting steel cut today and put it together Thur/Fri.

Its designed with 7/16" "ribs", frame mounts and winch plate. Front center section is 1/4", and wings are 1/8". Prob just gonna drop the winch base to 1/4" and brace it underneath.
