Hey guys I can't figure this one out... I just know the basics of mechanics. Anyhow, I am having a problem staring my 78 FJ40. It ran strong few days ago but now it won't start. Gas is full, I makesure the choke is out (for cold start), pump on the gas and nothing. I hear the ignition cranking and know that power is strong. I also makesure the plugs are in tight and nothing loose but still won't work. So, I sprayed some carb. cleaner hoping it'll start... and no bueno!

If I'm giving it gas (pressing the accelerator) while cranking the ignition and I get no response, what can that mean? PLEASE HELP!

Got any Spark?

Do have fuel to the carb. ?

Pull a plug and see what it looks like, dry or juicy

ignition fuse ?

flooded? full throttle no choke and run the started for 20 seconds< if you in LA today you dont need choke, its warm already

first thing i would do is make sure its getting fuel pull the air cleaner and hand pump the throttle see if its pumping fuel if thats happening cool, next pull the number 1 plug wire and put a plug in it groung it on the block and have someone crank the motor if your by yourself turn on the key get a screwdriver and touch the battery cable on the starter to the ignition wire on the starter that will crank the motor, if your getting fuel but no spark hot wire it , wire from the possitive post on the battery to the coil make sure it has a good contact you should get something if you hot wire it and it starts its in the ignition wiring , i am not sure about your motor but see if it has a fuseable link good luck , thats my back yard advice
