I drove the 60 from Tennessee to California to meet the guys I've been wheeling with for the last 38 years in the Death Valley desert. After driving this vehicle since 2009 with the stock drive train and now with the LS and 6L80, what a fantastic experience. And the LRA 40 gallon tank is great, fueling up every 540 miles leaving about 5 gallons in the tank. I made myself new door panels from 1/8" ABS and a privacy curtain just before leaving. This was the first time out using the sleeping platform and it's a great addition as well as the storage.

Did the Australian Door Cards fall apart? How did you make the new panels? Also, I love this thread! It reads like an epic novel and I hope to follow in your footsteps. I just got my first 60, same year and color but no mods. Thanks for posting so much detailed info

Looks great.
Platform is cool. Does it convert back to having a backseat?
No it doesn't. My kids are grown and l have been sleeping in the back since 2009 so l made a permanent sleep platform for my wife and l. Plus now l am always carrying sleeping bags, pillows, 2 weeks of dehydrated food and 5 gallons of water and all camping supplies full time.

Figured, thanks. It’s cool.

The Aussie door cards were great, except they were very thin. They were about 1/16" thick and warped pretty badly over time. The new panels are 1/8" thick ABS l bought on Amazon. I used the Aussie panels as patterns, cut the ABS with a jigsaw and finished the edge with a 1"x21" beltsander, and adjusted the rear door pull so it didn't hit the bed. If l ever have to make door panels again, I'll go 3/16" thick.

My build might not be for everyone but l love it. The interior is user friendly and easy to clean, and l don't worry about scratching the outside when wheeling. If you ever have any questions as you build your 60 shoot me a message. Good luck on your 60. This model is my favorite.
