Congrats on the deal, makes me look like a schmuck for what I paid.'

Don't let these elitists beat you down over a red cruiser. Who gives a damn?

Hi all,

I have been lurking, researching and reading on the forum for a while. I have learned what to look for, what to avoid and how to fix issues because of this great community and I'm very appreciateive of everyone here on MUD.

About a month ago, I dove in head first and bought a '97 Collector's Edition LC. It's burgundy (... I know, not the most sought after color) and only has 191k on the clock. It is mostly stock with a few new parts from the PO like radiator, oil pump, fuel pump, new AC (I cold). It had a major hole in the old Bosal down pipe and the O2 sensor was dangling. It came with new MT Baja Radial MTZ's and a beautiful interior.

I drove 250 miles with the Mrs. to look at it and drove it home. It made it most the way until it started to run hot after about 200 miles. I brought a OBDII reader to keep an eye on it (thanks to the forum) and limped her home floating around 220-230 degrees, stopping multiple times along the way. Tested the HG with a pressure kit and also a gas kit from the radiator - no issues!

Nice ride and sweet deal! Medium Red Pearl is actually my favorite color. I dunno why most people don’t like it.

Moar pics! Interior shots?

I actually really love the color too! It's similar to my birthstone, Garnet, the color of royalty haha

I'll post more pics soon, once I'm off work

Looks like the deal of the century. I won't show my insurance agent this thread though. ;)

Haha thanks! Fortunately the PO left the "price" section blank on the title she signed over to me. I may or may not have put $10k on it bc GA taxes based on book value.

USAA is insuring it for $10k too!

I did notice something odd this evening, I am getting an arc coming into the distributor cap from the center plug. Any idea what may be causing it? I'm planning on replacing cap/rotor/wires/plugs soon anyway but want to ensure it won't blow up on me...

A little update since my last post -
I have replaced the cap/rotor/wires & plugs, about to replace the radiator & water pump, and am waiting on brakes to come in from a black Friday deal. She threw a CEL for P0325, new sensor on it's way too (the wires look okay)... And a brand used rear hatch painted to match (the old one was nice and rusty)

She's coming along nicely and as a daily driver for where I live, she's perfect!

Glad to see you’re enjoying the 80!

Are those MTZ's 305/70 on a stock height suspension? I have been looking at those pretty heavy. Seem to get great reviews for ride quality for a nice AT/MT mixed tire.

They're MTZ's 285/70 on stock height. They do ride very nicely and aren't terribly loud too!

Welcome to mud, Great DEAL that a 6 to 8 k Cruiser were I live.
