Well I still have no tach... We installed the Dakota Digital device and the tach just does a little blip at first start up... Trouble shot for a while then he decided he'd have to call Dakota digital... o_O Always a Bummer to have it not work right out of the gate.

On another note I happen to ask Dustin about a mystery relay near the compushift... He says that is the backup/reverse light relay... o_O Interesting because mine doesn't work and I know it has been an issue with a couple other guys... He said it sure should... I was happy and slightly confused that there was a provision for the BU lights to actually work then I was bummed that it didn't work... I guess I will check to see if I have two burned-out back up light bulbs... seems unlikely but you never know

Whats different about your tach setup? mine worked right out the gate. The 92 must be a totally different setup.

Dustin believes the 91 to 94 tach setup is the same... And I think he recently started using this new Dakota digital box versus some of the other setups/methods he has used in the past... I kinda feel like it may just be a faulty unit from Dakota... Unlucky... Or there is a wiring issue somewhere...

I would prob say wiring problems with both backup and tach ;). He finally just sent me a couple wires with pins for the compushift so I could get my backup lights working after a year of bugging him. And at first startup there was a wiring mistake he made on my TPS. so...

also did you mount your compushift? if so where. I kinda just tucked it in behind the speaker grill for now.

Well mine is still getting kicked around half hanging... Left it that way knowing I still needed access to get the tach working. I think it will fit pretty good straight above the glove box secured by zip ties I guess.

So far it all has been pretty good... And eventually/hopefully very soon the tach issue will get resolved.

The only other issue I have is my cruise control hasn't worked since I've owned it... The green cruise light comes on and looks like all is well. I've seperated the low brake fluid wires that were on the stock reservoir cap... Maybe the actuator is bad? Anyone been through this and have any tips? Or most likelys? Thanks :hmm:

I have the exact same situation with my 92 that I recently picked up. Can't offer any guidance as I havn't looked into fixing it yet.

Same place I have mine. It's zipped to the speedo box . Both are crammed up there along with my sat radio box. Plenty of room once you take out the factory amp.

Hi jvoight, I'm just up I-5 from you. Getting ready to start my swap soon and was curious if you ever did that write-up on you hydroboost swap? I am trying to do research to figure out what donor hydroboost is going to be the closest to stock/simplest since there are several different Chevy models that use them.

I have found that there is no need for hydroboost. I have removed ABS and put in a manual prop valve. My braking is now better with the Cummins on 37's than it was with the 1FZ, ABS and 315's.

Yeah, @Jvoight how about a hydroboost writeup...or maybe we can all hang up on @strictlyRUM tondo a brief write up. I know you're both busy guys so...no pressure.

Doesn't the hydroboost at least look cooler? Plus it has a lil more bad ass ring to it when you tell people!

I will share the details of the swap... As best as I can recall anyway with some close up pics.. And my results... Which honestly aren't as good as I would have expected... They work well but do not have the Holy Crap those are some powerful brakes feel. I've done the big brake upgrade with all new EBC stuff Brake upgrade on a '92, parts input puhleeze page 2...
I actually am thinking my power steering pump may be wore out and tired... Not supplying the hydroboost with adequate psi... Not sure how to check that tho... Ideas? I did zip tie the load sensing valve to full open and that made a noticeable difference... Which encourages those back brakes to get off their lazy ass and help... They don't seem to be over powered, as in they don't lock up easily... under aggressive braking, they will on gravel but usually about the same time the front do... And I'm running 35" bfg's...
next up I have a 1995 FF axle with rear disc waiting to be put in...

Cheers!

The biggest reason I was looking into the hydroboost was because I wanted to swap out the vacuum pump for an air compressor to have onboard air. That is if I have enough room for one...

Another reason I went that way was The vacuum booster( at least on my 92) was crashing pretty hard into the fuel filter housing of the drop in filter style which take up lil more room than the older spin on style...

I know the problem you speak of. My 97 fuel filter was too big and clearance with the booster was non existance. I picked up a 96 fuel filter housing (if I remember correctly..I know the details are in my build thread). It's much smaller and provides the needed clearance. Much simpler solution than figuring out how to rig up hydroboost.

Got a 1995 full float with disk brakes that I've been rebuilding almost ready to go in! Also bought an ARB locker to go in it as well!

Feeling pretty good to soon have a legit 3 wheel drive! Rebuild consisted of all new brakes... Calipers, rotors, pads, park brake shoes. New axle seals, gaskets and repacked bearings. Reasonably easy project and plus it just feels good to go through your own axle

1995 rear drive line (or shorten my 92)

And finally the big one!

1) Diesel Adapters fzj80 Cummins kit

As far as I know the kit is now complete with all of the parts obtained and in my possession...

As some of us know that is a big deal in itself. I have an advantage in that I'm 1.5 hrs away from the seller of this kit. It still took me 3 trips to get all parts included in the kit... Anyway...

Part of my Journey is dealing with the fact that mine is a 92... the kit is designed for a 93 through 97 with the 4.5L and an electronic controlled transmission. So part of my deal is tricking the kit into thinking that mine is a 93 or newer. So far that has not been that big of a deal.

Removing the 4.0 L motor mounts (front engine) and installing the 4.5 L motor mounts (mid engine) has been done and wasn't that hard. This allows for the kit motor mounts to bolt to the cruiser frame mounts.

I'm excited to get this thing done and am glad to have met (not literally) some others who have jumped into this diesel adapters kit group... We are all in the same pond so to speak... It's probably more like a mud puddle but still... Seems like a good kit even though the customer service is lacking...

I'm a few weeks into it and am just now trying to catch up on a build thread... Thanks for following along and comments & ?'s are welcome... I do try to avoid negative comments as much as possible...

Thanks
I know this is an old thread but what measurements did you use to get the engine frame mounts into the stock location that they would be in an fzj? I ask because im going to be cutting out them out on my 92 and replacing them with the fzj frame mounts and from my current understanding they sit in a different location on the frame vs the fj80. Thanks!
