The radio is kinda dumb, while on standby, it constantly scrolls "Pioneer" across the screen. I'd prefer the clock, but it doesn't have any option to change it

Glad the radio is working out. Nice badges by the way! Wish I could find the old 4Wheel drive badges from a 40.

So, I decided to drag some guy in a 2500 GMC Sierra today. I got him off the line, Redline shifted outta 1st at 4900rpm (I didn't watch the tach to let it shift sooner) then 2nd and 3rd shifted at 3200rpm and then finally 4th when I started taking it easy (I was then going 70mph) and was just a little ahead of the 2500.

My question is, where is Valve float on the 3F-E? I know with the old Subarus, Valve float is a little over 7000rpm (About 500rpm over Redline) Either way, the motor didn't sound stressed, and I still had some pull.

I mainly drive the 3F-E like an old man, letting it shift around 2500rpm at most, sometimes around 3000rpm. How do these motors like High or Low RPMs?

Ummm it's not a race car.....they are an OHV motor so I would not ring it out to much. Also drag racing on the street in dangerouse in cars let alone trucks.

A Subaru EA81 is a Solid lifter Pushrod OHV motor, they can run at 7000rpm all day which is why everyone uses them for Aircrafts. But we are also dealing with a Flat-4 vs Straight-6.

Now i'm just going to have to call BS...... a 3FE powered cruiser beating a Chevy V8 powered 2500..... not a chance. are you sure he wasn't dragging a 20k boat behind it :flipoff2:

This was a early/mid '90s 2500. Dude had that dumb loud Dual exhaust set up and I could here him really giving it hell, tranny was slipping lol! I know the 3F-E is a slow beast, but I bet I could out crawl that 2500 ;)

I will say one thing, my folks '08 FJ Cruiser Automatic is quick and torquey. little over 1/4 throttle and it pushes you back into the seat (Wish my LC had that type of get up!) 4.0 V6, who would have thought. I love the FJ Cruisers power! 2nd gear and I'm already going 70mph, without even a redline shift.

Is CruiserDan the guy I need to talk to about getting all the bears and seals to replace my leaking front axle seal? I know somebody posted a link to the page where it lists all the parts for about $100.

I am thinking I should get the parts soon so I can tackle this. :)

Yes, CruiserDan (CDan) or Beno can get you OEM new parts at a very reduced prices. Great service and both are cruiser heads, so they know what you need even when you don't.

Congrats to Beno, he has now matriculated from Dan's rigorous and long "Excellence in IH8Mud Parts Service" training program and has taken over his own parts department at a sister Toyota Dealership also in Albuquerque.

I'm guessing he had to pass Dan's Landcruiser parts bootcamp (sweeping floors, fetching parts, pushups, studying old microfiche parts diagrams long into the night, "grasshopper, the answer is in front of your nose"), and Toyota PhD (studying kaizen and the "Toyoda Way" in Japan) until he was finally allowed to translate customer gibberish about the "watchmacallit" into correct parts for the problems without supervision.

Thanks Dan, thanks Onur!

The truth is very close to what Louis wrote above.

Dan is a great teacher...I am fortunate and lucky to have him as my sensei.

Arigato!

put me on the list for an official Toyota samurai sword.

posted with my thumbs.

Well at least you only have to tear down one axle. I have to tear down both to install my e-lockers I'll let you know when I'm going to start we could have a cruiser axle party. Will be easy now that the damn super duty is out of my garage.

Jason, I'll be more then willing to give you a hand with your axles, then I can see first hand what I am looking at when I do mine.

I would do both sides, yours probably haven't been done yet, and you would hate to have to do the other side 3 months later.

I might do both sides at the same time, but even if I do the leaking side first and then the other side some other time, its not a huge deal. Its not like I would have to undo everything I did prior to accomplish the other side.

I need to get me Ski wagon finished up for I even mess with the 80 though.

I sourced a Brown and Tan Double flip consol lid for dirt cheap! Now I'll be ridin' in style. Leather looks a little worn, but I can fix that.

At least I got something done on my truck this month! :flipoff2:
