Haven't done much to the ole' 80. Went all thru winter and spring with no issues! I will be doing brakes on it soon, and last weekend I changed out the driver side axle seal. Original KOYO bearing looked fine and had no signs of wear, so I left it. New National seal.
Tomorrow, we'll be taking the Canoe for its first voyage of the year.

Also to back track a little bit, here is the video of the Super-44 muffler.
Also, last month I have the pleasure of pulling out my buddies Forester from a pretty hairy mud pit. Landcruiser did pretty good even without lockers, although I did get stuck by a log in the mud. just couldn't get the front wheels back over the log, needed a little tug from the Forester Lol.

Rolled over 184k today. Nothing going on, other than my new EFI relay got stuck once. Tapped it and its been working fine now :/ On that topic, how hot do these EFI relays usually get? I've noticed on my new one, the terminal tabs are starting to discolor along with the plastic WTF?
Other than that, bee smooth sailing. I'm looking to get a new set of KM2s before winter. Going with 35x12.5x15 this time. 33x10.5 look a little funny and I could use a little more tire to bring the diffs up a bit.

So after having the EFI relay fail on me while driving (The ole' 80 coasts pretty well in Neutral at 65mph) I am going to run a non factory 4 pin relay, in hope that it won't fail (Fail as quick) I've read enough of how this issue seems to be the thing that pleages 3F-Es and according to something on ExpeditionPortal running a heavier duty relay is the way to go. Someone also said changing the wiring from 12ga to 10ga helped, I don't see how, the wires may be a little cooler from less resistance, but the same load is going to be on the relay.
So other than this little mishap today, the truck should be good for winter, minus new tires.
PS: I made it home with a little 20amp fuse in place of the relay. Only piece of metal I had handy

Another interesting day in the Life of 3F-Eing. Go to move the truck so I can blow out the driveway (-15 deg F) start it up, idles low and rough so I give it a little gas and it starts to idle up fine, let it run for a good 15min or so as I get the blowers running and such. Truck is pretty warm by now so I give it a little gas and get ready to move it, after the RPM drops to hot idle speed, it starts to loft almost stalling and continues to idle that way, exhaust is smoking thin black and you can smell its super rich, if you bring the rpm up it smooths out and runs fine, it also smooths out while driving around, only at idle run like total crap.
Had this same issue before but never did figure it out. Mind you, I drove it all over last night in slightly warmer temps and it was normal. Also after shutting it off, and restarting it a few minutes later, it idled normal (Like something needed to warm up)
The two main accordion intake boots are new and all other vac related hoses are newer and aren't cracked. This has to be some electrical component, but WHAT!? Can this be a TPS issue? If this was an AFM issue, I've read the truck will die when increasing rpms because of unmetered air.

It maybe the flapper in the AFM is sticking when it gets that cold.

Interesting, I've cleaned the AFM the best I could last spring. What would be the best way to make sure the flap inside is free? I have also considered the idea that the Idle Speed Control is causing this abnormality. Once you take the motor off of idle, it runs fine. A new ISC is around $560 Lol!
I would make sure your TPS is adjusted per the FSM first.

TPS Checks out to the FSM, so I removed the ISC and tested it per FSM, and when voltage is applied, it does not move In/Out (You do feel a little tick) So I removed the unit from the armature and spun it buy hand, turns freely in and out. I'm under the impression that the magnet is weak/dying. The ISC was stuck in the Open position when I removed it.
I am about 97% sure this has been the issue all along, hopefully after the new one is in, this will be the end of this issue I should also change FPR at some point.

I snagged a supposed "Good working" ISC off ebay, waiting to get it and pop it in.
On another note, I am looking at getting 35x12.5x15 General Grabber X3s soon. Been comparing some type options, and I was gonna run the KM2s just a size bigger, but figured I'd give General's new tire a try, another sale point for me is the fact the lugs are Siped on these, might add a little extra grip on the road while still having nice open lugs for deep snow, mud and the like.
Anyone else running the X3s? Post up what you think.

Got the ebay ISC and a bunch of HPS hoses. So I put my ISC in all hooked all the coolant hoses up, fired it up and it ran different, no more lofting, but extreme low idle and almost won't recover RPM after a little rev (Ran it for about 10min just to see if it needed to adjust, shut off and started back up) nothing changed. SO, I put in the ebay ISC fired it up, ran like crap for a few seconds (Must have adjusted) and now the truck runs fine.
Started it while the motor was ice cold (20s deg.f) and it idled right up and appears to be working as it should. The ebay unit actually makes a different clicking sound right after shutting the engine off, a more rapid clicking sound. My original one made slower shorter clicks (Ticka ticka ticka)
I am looking into ordering a new genuine ISC just so this will not be an issue further down the road.

The first time I just removed the entire ISC from the Intake, so I could use better leverage on the screws. After breaking that initial torque they are easily removed while on the engine. I also changed the screws to Allen head screws to make it easier.
The only thing thats in the way was the main intake boots.
