Love your build thread very informative. I drive a 91. What snorkel did you buy and were there any fitment issues? Ive been looking at the ones on eBay but not about to jump into buying one that will have fitment issues. Thanks in advance for any snorkel recommendations/advice!

Thanks! Yeah it was the Ebay snorkel. Its basically a knock off Safari Snorkel and it fits perfect! The template works even though its kinda scary making the first hole haha. I paid about $170 I think? I had it on in an afternoon.

So, I've been debating on replacing the both Oxygen Sensors (probably with new Denso ones) but my problem is, I know the studs will snap off if I touch them. So what do you do in this case?

Has anyone ever found another sensor that has the same range, but is of the round, screw into a bung style and retro fitted that into the exhaust?

Here are some pics of it properly De-Smogged. I'm just waiting to pick up the EGR Block Off Plate from my buddy who CNC'ed it out of 1/8" Steel. (Hence the Rubber plug in it for now)

Anyway, I am now thinking all this is being caused by the Coolant Temp Sensor. As I started it up to day and let it run for a good 20min, playing with the throttle, Starting and Stopping the motor and it runs great. I don't think it could run any smoother. But it is also 40deg F. today, the issue seems to act up when the temperature is below freezing and lately its always in the single digits or negative degrees. I know the CTS can play a large part in how a vehicle runs and can also cause lofting. So that being said, I now have a new CTS and will be putting it in, I need to remove two of the Head Bolts to remove the old Air Pump bracket to gain access to the CTS (Unless someone knows of a better way??)
Can you give me the specs on the exhaust manifold plug? Size?

I just cut them off and had the muffler shop reweld in new mounting pads.

The older I get and the more experienced I am, the quicker I am to resort to an angle grinder or a sawzall. Too easy.

I can't remember the specs on it. Its basically two brass plugs from Lowes, I lock-tited the smaller plug into the large plug. This is the same plug that is mentioned in the official De-smogging thread. it gives a part number to find at Lowes (Menards does not carry it)

Cheers,

So I ordered both new O.E fit Cat pipes (Comes from the Manifold to the joining mid-pipe) I needed to buy new pipes, just for the fact of replacing the Oxygen Sensors (Studs and flanges are rusted something fierce) Anyway, when I get those, I am going to cut the cats off, and just put tubing in its place. No more cats, since desmoggling this beast.

I also ordered both new Denso O2 Sensors. Got everything off Rockauto for about $350. Hoping after this, I won't hear any more hissing from the pin-hold welds on the cats.

Also found this perfect quote from Jon, while looking for muffler/exhaust ideas for the 3F-E.

You all keep poking fun at lack of power. Yea, she boggs down on the hills, but who cares. It's a 6000 pound steel box. If you want to go really fast and have great handling and get great gas mileage, drive a motorcycle.

Also forgot to mention. Had to fix the only rust spot on the truck last week. So I cut out the bad section, and rebuilt the inner and outer structure of the rocker corner. Remade everything from the lower pinch weld, to the pinch weld for the wheel well. Nice and solid and rust free now! Had a good 4" hole before.

Painted the Rockers with Dupli-Color Bed Liner.

Its pretty spot on. Took a little fab work, and some grinding down the welds, but looks a lot better then before.

No rust on this side (Thankfully!)

Also rolled over 180,000 the other day!

Also, here is an updated photo of my currant, never ending project. Right now, this one is under going a full rust removal, along with extra beefing up and other goodies. Lots of work to do. This photo is before I tore it down.

6" lift, 30x9.5x15 Kendas.

Also, a snag of my other project over the summer.

Full on Weber 32/36 DGEV swap, and motor reseal, refresh, and clean up, with all Stainless hardware.

Looking great, love the old Subies too!

Also, can anyone tell me what the Vac lines on the transmission dipstick tube are for? There are two of them, which run down, being the motor, and can't see where they go.

This is the A440F trans.

I have the FSM, but can't seem to locate them in the book.

Those are the breathers for the trans. and the transfer case.

Ah, that makes sense. I was leaning that way, but wasn't sure. Cheers!

Does anyone have one of these y-pipes from a '91-'92? Mine is pretty rotted away, and would like to get a better one for when I put the new converter pipes on.

Don't really want to spend $250 on this one. So if someone has one thats better than mine, let me know :)

Thanks again everyone,
-Tom

New Cat pipes in, cats deleted, everything welded up nicely, painted everything with black Header paint. New Denso O2 sensors in. Runs a lot smoother, and feels a little less gutless.

Next up, I need to find some type of muffler. The factory one is the culprit of the whistling. Looking for something that will make a nice note under acceleration.

The only video I can find of a 3F-E is one that has a Glasspack. Anybody have some advice on mufflers? Looking for something throaty. Was also thinking of opening up the pipe after the muffler to something 3" or so.

Also, stuck one of those pre-cleaner bee hive snorkel heads on today, to replace the one that spider cracked on me.

Put a Flowmaster Super 44 2.25" on today. Sounds mean, nice rumble at idle. I will post a video, sometime for ya'll.

So after some good driving. Muffler was a good choice. Mine doesn't drone on the freeway. You can barely hear it over the tires and driveline. Only time it gets a little crazy is when you step on it. Sounds so mean at idle.
