Saw that Indian Springs got about 1-1/3 inches of rain out of that last storm. Here in the mountains of northern New Mexico we got about 3-1/2 inches of snow (~1/3 inch of water equivalent).

BTW, have you ever taken the relatively short hike up to Sky Arch south of US 95, opposite the Corn Creek Road turnoff? If you look carefully driving north on US 95 just before the turnoff it's visible to your left, on the horizon, on one of the two higher summits (the one on the left). The easiest access is from the road opposite the Corn Creek Road (Lucky Strike Canyon), at the substation. About where the white square is on the topo map:

No, never heard of it... Thanks!!

I've driven Lucky Strike a couple of times... One time, I had to replace my fuel pump, near the Observatory... But haven't hiked up there.

I appreciate the suggestion!!

One late winter afternoon my wife, sons, and I were exploring the Lucky Strike Canyon area in our new '84 FJ60. After quite a few miles we took a rough side road to the left up and over a divide into the Kyle Canyon drainage. By then it was getting dark. On the way down into the drainage we noticed a Jeep teetering into a small gully on the edge of the road. Some teenagers had run the right front wheel into the gully and couldn't back out to get all four wheels on the ground. They certainly weren't dressed for winter (there was snow on the ground), and it was already pitch dark. They would have had a very long night one way or another had we not stumbled across them. Out came the tow strap to pull them back on the road. We followed them to the Mt. Charleston highway just to make sure they got out OK. It's pretty desolate back in there, one reason we like it so much.

Oh yeah... I love the desolation too!!

But, I can't count how many people I've encountered who expect to call AAA and didn't even bring water... you're on your own out there and could easily die from any number of things.

I carry a LifeStraw in a desert with little water... Just in case... But, really hope to never have to drink my own urine...

I mentioned earlier that, the last trip out, I came back with both front turn signal/parking lights hanging morosely, rather than standing proudly, on the front fenders. Here are pictures of what I found... Exactly the same breakage on both fixtures.

I don't know what could have caused them to break, except that they are the epitome of CRAP...

Looks like thin metal. I would get a piece of 1/8 or 1/16" steel plate and replace it. The top light was to heavy for the thin plate it is or was mounted to and vibration killed it. Should be an easy fix.

The "she" in your case are those formerly 'good looking' aftermarket turn signals?

P.S. Like the new avatar picture you chose...

McCall Idaho is a really sweet place and really nice lake too.

Yeah, it's very thin... Maybe 22ga, at most, and apparently very brittle as well.

I've contacted the seller to see what he says... But, I don't expect satisfaction, even though I only bought them in Aug.

As soon as I know he's not going to step up, I'll see what I can do to fix them... But, the piece that shattered is more than a flat plate, it's a one-piece flat flange that is extruded into a sort of cone in the middle.. The cone mounts to the plastic stand-offs, with what looks like a peened nut on the hollow post.

So, I have some ideas... One is similiar to your suggestion, using 18ga and something I have, called PC7... and will see what I can do, as soon as I have a denial from the seller.

Thanks!!

I use PC7 also, seems to work well for a number of things.

If possible put a counterplate on the inside, it will strengten the construction even more and prevent the plastic from breaking. Weakest link when the steel is reinforced.

danny, why not spring for some new Toyota ones while they are still available? you know, what I may actually have some good oem bases laying around from some damaged lights I had from a roll over. i'll have a look in a bit.

That's Dianna's exact words... buy new oem.

I tried going cheaper and got bit.

I've done the same thing in the past. I purchased the replica turn signals originally and while they didn't break like yours did they did become really faded in two or three years of being on the truck. So last year I put some new Toyota ones on. Oh and don't get me started on the money I've wasted on reproduction window run channels and door seals from coolcruisers that I ended up throwing in the trash.

Oh yeah, live and learn!!
