Got the time to get the oil pan off. Looks good to me but for the area where it was leaking. Apparently, someone decided to use some force to release the oil pan...

In another thread on the 2F-E projects, the subject of piston "drop-out" went on. This is how much is in this engine...

No wonder it was leaking, gotta find a way to fix that...

Looks like you're putting a lot of work into it. Hope it met your expectations. Haven't been on the forum much but have been driving both the new 45s every day.

I'm not an expert but it looks like this intake valve has gotten pretty hot. Almost looks like it has pieces missing from the perimeter. I think this is the #1 cylinder. Wondering if the machine shop might have to replace this valve?

Glad to hear from you. Yes, once I got into it, I couldn't stop.

Yes, I wasn't disappointed, you were as clear as one could be for a long distance buy. I could have asked more questions and requested more pictures but it wouldn't have mattered, I would have bought it anyway...

Thanks for the observations. Yet, that head will be on the shelf for a while since this project includes a "2F-E" engine. I have a donor head from a 91 FJ-80 that has been gone through completely and is ready for install...

Oil galley plugged...

Got some work done while waiting for the block to be completed. Staring through the window of the sandblast cabinet mostly. I did "drink the kool-aid" and invested in the Eastwood "dual voltage" powder coating gun. I knew I'd being going through cases of primer and flat black paint in cans so I looked for a reasonable oven on CL, with $80 investment in the oven, away we go...

Totally screwed the valve cover up. To start, it doesn't fit in the oven, I have to shove it up in the corner and have it resting on a piece of steel so it doesn't rest on the heating element. Long story short, I dropped it when I tried to get it out of the oven. Oh well...

Then, I get the call to come pick up the block. Still waiting on the cam to come back from CA, getting a re-grind. Cleaned, didn't need to have it "decked", just bored out to 1.00 mm over, installed the new cam bearings, freeze plugs, polished the crank and away I go.

I'll get it back on the stand tomorrow so I can have a Christmas project...

Nice build!

looking foward to more

Looks decent to me. When I have something difficult to handle in the PC oven, I just turn the oven off and let it cool a bit before I try to take it out. It's getting them into the oven with powder on that's tricky!

Is that valve cover just clear coated?

Thanks, I'll keep plugging away...

Yup, that would have been the smart thing to do. Because I was trying to do some detail work, masking the raised letters with another color, I had to take it out to remove the masking tape. Live and learn.

Its called "chrome smoke", looks very much like clear coating on cleaned and blasted aluminum...

I got busy with the rebuilding of the engine today. I've had all the stuff but had to put together all the Christmas gifts for the family.

I got it back, cleaned it up and painted it to match the head. Mounting it to the stand and I made the modifications to the arms so I didn't have any clearance issues...

First thing I had to clear up was the end cap with the buggered up gasket surface. I took one of my polishing stones and tried to clean it up. I was able to clean it up well but for two deep gouges. I wasn't comfortable modifying the profile enough for them to disappear. I mostly focused on the edges so they were nice and square. I can't imagine what happened other than abuse somewhere in this engine's life.

Then, to the main bearings, crank and end caps. Pretty straight forward but for the stupid thrust washer. I swear it dropped out 5 times before I used a dab of grease to hold it in place while I dropped the crank into its snug, fresh home...

Awesome powdercoating work! I like the smoke color too!

Keep it up.

Putting me to shame Jerry! work looks great, keep it up and give me a shout if you need extra hands for a big day.

Didn't read where anyone answered the stamping question. Since I learned the hard way about engine noise on the first cruiser when I was a younger man. I pulled the bottom end of my FJ62 around 100,000 miles. I got new bearings before opening it up. Those numbers were needed to order the correct bearings. As it turned out I wasted my time. The old bearings clearance was still as good as when it was new according to the FSM.:bounce:

Thanks, yes, the powder coating system is worth it thus far...
