Hello,
I got this 72 fj40 for "free"...sort of. I put a 350 chevy/th350/np205 in a buddies 87 YJ jeep, and got this in exchange.
I am new to 4x4's and off roading, but ,I know cars and how to fix and modify them.
so anyway hope i can get the pics on.

Which way will the project go.....

you know I am not positive at this point:hhmm: but I am kinda likin' the idea of pretty much a factory original look with a 2-3 inch lift an 33" tires on steel wheels w/ caps.
I have a complete hard top in the garage (disassembled).
I also have a problem leaving anything stock:rolleyes: but I have always liked the factory "tough" look.
If any one has the old 60's split bench seat and long jump seats I would love some! and I can get rid of the :censor: thats in it now.
Yes, the more I experience the dark side....the more I like it!

nice score, good thing to hook into this site so early in your addiction

Always better to talk to those in the know. Lots of options ,and I respect the opinions of those who have been there.
Thanks for any input.

GREAT RIDE. I CAN'T BELEIVE THE IDIOT FIXED THE JEEP AND GAVE AWAY THE CRUISER =. LUCKY YOU! FIRST GET RID OF THOSE BRAKES THERE MEARLY A SUGGESTION TO STOP.

Yep, do a mini truck disc brake swap first, move the shifter to the floor if it's not there already and install power steering. 3 best mods you can do, imho. Next remove the diamond plate because all that does is breed rust.
Lastly, enjoy!!! welcome to the site and make room for the addiction.

I have a full set of seats from a 69 FJ40. The fronts would not be correct for your year. Jump seats are the long style. Free if you can figure out how to pick them up in Wyoming. Please don't ask to ship.

You will find out nothing is for free, especially anything that is Land Cruiser related.
Congrats on the money pit:)

nice do more work on your friends h**p,(thats mud for jeep...shhh),you scored he could have wanted you to put the motor in the toy and gave you the heep....nice rig take your time enjoy it

I can't decide if its good or bad to have friends like that....
good for giving you a Cruiser...
bad for not realizing he was keeping a J**P to give away a Cruiser.

Oh well, you own a Cruiser now. Congratulations!

I have a set of aluminum slots 16.5x9.75 (crap33x12.5x16.5 tires)....I think they look great on the fj and have the 70's look for sure. I got them off the donor truck that lost its heart to the HEEP.
only problem cant get shouldered lugs for alum-slots it toyota threads. they are only available in chevy size lugs 14mm. Not sure if i want to go thru the trouble to swap all studs to chevy to make them fit (or buy adaptors that would make them protrude more). Plus 16.5 rims make tire buying alittle more costly.
so any more insight...anyone.. on "mini-truck" disc brake swap ????????????????????????????????????????????? as opposed to chevy parts ?
I figure safety first and brakes are at the top of the list !!

also looking for some factory steel rims.........anyone???

hell I wish i could run to wyoming and get those seats:steer:
thanks all for the comments. terry

what would be my best 72fj40 brake upgrade?????

so what are some opinions on the best "economical" brake upgrades ? kepping it toyota or swap to chevy parts.....

Welcome!:flipoff2:

Toyota. Mini truck (it's the same as LC parts, just cheaper--buy a cruiser rotor and it's all cruiser) disc on the front. I wouldn't worry about the rear, unless you play in the mud a lot. With discs on the front, the drums in the rear aren't such a bad deal (but I would make sure they were adjusted correctly). Disclaimer: I hate non-Toyota parts.

And for the record: I noticed the bezel being upside down.

Nice score! Color me jealous.

Actually, a lot of people on here catch the upside down bezels, we call them the bezel police :flipoff2: It's just our way of kidding around, as the thick part on top is factory correct, and hides the hood hook latch, plus earlier models had "Land Cruiser" stamped into the thick part. Welcome!

Brian
