Sorry about that, I think you right it looks well done. It’s on to land cruiser heaven.

That's a tuff one, for sure. Looks like you pulled the fusible link pretty far to reach the positive terminal on thT backwards battery

What are the fuses for in the front of the battery? Man that's alot of stuff hooked up to it.

Sorry to see that. :(

BUT, it looks like a perfect candidate for an LS swap. Good truck, bad motor---score for someone.

Just have to un clip the harness at 2 spots and you have more than enough slack. I also enlarged holes in the battery box. There was no tension on anything.
In addition to the stretched fusible links and the wrong style of battery posts the expanded holes in the battery had no protective grommets. Why is there 5 cables connected to the negative battery posts? There appears to be only 3 cables plus the links on the positive post. Most of the cables look to be stressing the battery posts. The wiring and relays at the front of the battery looked to be stressed/bent as well.

Geez man, you have never seen my truck, have no clue what you're talking about and basing all of your info on one picture? Stressing the battery posts? Relays are stressed? You're stressed, calm down.

Did not have a dual battery setup, had a spare battery for jumping purposes if needed. It was not connected to anything. Happened after truck was shut off and went to eat dinner at a restaurant. The consensus is my starter contacts got stuck. Over the last six months I've had three times where the starter would turn and then stop, but would turn right back over again, didn't think about it being an issue figured a new starter would soon be in order. The starter and winch are the only 2 wires on the truck that don't have a fuse on them. The starter feed was melted almost all the way to the starter. The winch feed was only melted at the battery so I would assume it was the starter.

OP: sorry for your loss, that had to have been horrifying to come across and watch your truck going up in smoke. Doesn't sound like anyone was hurt, which I am sure was a relief. I would absolutely buy it back from the insurance company, but to me fire damage is like flood/water damage - you may never know the full extent of it and it will always be nagging in the back of your mind; what if a critical component was weakened and goes at exactly the wrong time? I would buy another vehicle on the cheap you can trx parts to, or part it out and move on. Just my $02......

@Desert Dino that's a good safety feature against several issues - do you use the cutoffs every time you walk away from the truck? Do ya'll just not worry about things like set radio stations or any onboard clock or do you retrofit the vehicle with ones that have batteries installed? I have a kill switch for my deuce, but it doesn't have any creature comforts, so a complete power shut-down is acceptable.

Will you be getting another 80? If so, get friendly with local club, throw a party one weekend and see how quickly y'all can swap the parts to the new truck.

Maybe tap the keg after parts are done being swapped.

Doesn't look like another 80 is in the future. A few members have already shown interest in the rig. We have 4 kids and the 80 was getting tight. Looking at an 05-07 Sequoia option.

ok, i have put money down to buy this truck. once i get it home i will see what can be done. i have everything needed to fix it x3 but will need to get a good look first to see just how bad the damage is, pics only go so far. look for a rebuild thread or another part out from me soon.

Well after digging into the truck I think I am just going to part it out. I could fix it but it got the dash harness pretty bad and I am not sure I would trust the heater core either.

I am not going to go to all the trouble of replacing that so it will go on to the chopping block once I have removed everything I want personally.

@Jgrauman - so it seems like an insurance situation was fair to you, if you don’t mind posting then please PM me who you’re with.

I’m on a standard policy on my 80 but I’m not blindly faithful to my insurer.

I’m open to hearing who you’re with.
