Mounted My IPF Lights on My Hood!

You guys in the 100-series section are harsh compared to the 60 section; but I belong to much worse forums. I don't think the lights look that bad, but I know that if he wheels his Cruiser like I do, those would be ripped off the hood by a tree within the first hundred meters. And if he lived where I do, those holes he drilled would be rusted out three times the size come spring..
Same misery I endured in 1984 in Salt Lake area.

Hi, welcome to the 100 section. Tech on Mud is a no profanity zone. Next time you unload like that, plan on some time off.

Others, be respectful. Not every mod suits everyone. If you just have to post a simple "not for me" or helpful advice about why a mod may not be the best idea will suffice.

OP, you know that red thing in your fairlead is to hold the winch hook, right? With it hooked to the d-ring it's kinda not serving any purpose. Kinda like a belt and suspenders.

So if he had posted up about the lack of cup holders or how to clean his leather interior he would have been okay?

You guys are killing me here.

Somebody go start a thread about changing wiper blades or installing floor mats please.

oh and I mounted my CB antenna on the rear bumper today too
You might want to paint your hood matt black other wise the glare is going to be a problem.

Mounting the CB antenna on back bumper will result in s huge "dead" area to the front of the vehicle.

Actually the isolator also acts as a weight to drop the cable in an event of it snapping (according to daystar atleast) also I apologize for the language

Its your truck, do what you want. If you want to do things differently from everyone else thats fine.....like you said it makes yours unique.

What he said.

Also, look at loud, he put a police style flood light on the pilar and hasnt ripped it off wheeling. So, those that say you will rip it off are saying it from pure speculation. While I dont necessarily agree with your mods and I think there are some serious safety issues (I.e. your recovery points). It is your rig and do what you want.

My view when doing a mod, is do nothing that cant be reversed.... and if it cant, spend a good amount of time thinking it over so it doesn't become a costly experience.

Good luck, welcome and have fun!

p.s

I remember when I first started, I saw a guy in the picture thread that had these:

Pacer Performance 25-500 - Pacer Performance Bumper Guard Trim Protectors - Overview - SummitRacing.com

mounted on his front quarter panels and thought they looked SO COOL. I never did it. But..... you know!

This thread be funy.

To the OP, it's your truck, modify it how you want.

You posted this for the same reason that anyone posts unique mods they have done, to see what others think. So, people are just saying what they think.

But just so you know, there is a reason you don't see very many folks drilling holes into their perfectly fine hood to mount lights: it looks bad, :D. Even Jeep guys don't do this, they use the windshield hinge mounts, or the hood fold down rest points.

Hoods are made of thin metal designed to crumple in a collision. Besides the fact that you have now made the lights less useful due to the reflection coming off the hood, they will now probably shake a whole lot more.

Ok this poor guy....

Ill offer some words of wisom on how this place works.

Please remember that there are guys here who have owned thier rigs since 98 on this forum and have been playing with them on every weekend since the day they bought it.

If you can do it to a hundy, I promise it has been discusses here over and over and over agian, then it has been tested, and there has been feedback, which is why everyone will alwaise tell you to search first.

Ok, so accoring to all of us youve made a mistake (No worries, thats how you learn.. ask me about my 35's)

The other thing you should know about this section of mud is that most of the conversation and mods here are for trail or adventre rigs... there are very few pimped cars here, which is why every now and then you will see one of these :grinpimp: and then you know you need to dial it back.

This means that most of the things done here are FUNCTIONAL first, and most of the guys here will ask first and then do the mod.

So the way your thread should have gone was:
- Hey everyone i want my lights somewhere else on my rig
- Hey new guy, welcome to the forum, try light bar, roof rack, or ontop of your bull bar.
- Thats cool but i think i want to mount them on my bonnet.
- Probably no the best idea as they are going to put a crazy glare on your hood and get cought on branches.
- Not a problem fo rme im not into big trails
- Well if your set on it dont drill into your hood try some of these and let us know how it goes

and then lastly, here your allowed to attac ideas, but never memebers.

Hope you comr right on the forums, there is alot to learn here, and some good guys who will help you out.

Welcome to the forums, you've had a trail by fire, remeber its not about how you where put down but about how you get up now.

you need to contact TLC Dan and get one of his big hood blackout vinyl decals that reduces glare from bright surfaces or to help prevent burning of your retinas if you decide you got a great idea like mounting 100W lights on a reflective surface 6 feet from your seated position. :) :)

Seriously..>TLC Dan has what you need.

wait that sounds mildly:princess:

Welcome to the forum, enjoy the new light position. Post back with a review and the pros cons that YOU find with YOUR choice in mounting position.
The full hood protector from Isotel will help with the glare.

I just reread the entire thread, most of the people in previous posts with negative comments that lacked tact are the same who constantly post useless and uninformed information. They tend to be the same people who get stuck in every "which tire is the best" threads. To the OP, your original outburst was in the wrong but you apologized and continued your discussion, that shows that you may in fact have your head screwed on straight. Over time you will realize which users really know their stuff (I'm thinking Spressomon, there are many others most of which don't get involved in threads like these) and those users will be more than happy to give you their educated opinions. Search is your friend on this forum and check out the ROTM section in the FAQs. Enjoy and stick around, just think about posts before you press "Submit Reply". I've deleted many post's before pressing that button.

I can see that, we usually use something heavier like someone's jacket. I don't know if you missed the post about your antenna. Look up ground plane. Hidden behind all the metal of the body of the truck is going to kill your range. The roof is best and then on down from there.

When I had mine on the rear bumper I could not hear anybody in front of me unless they were within 50ft, I could never get a solid ground either. Moving it to the front bumper solved everything.

I will bet if you look at anyone's truck you can find something that looks like poop, in your opinion. Opinions are like xxxxxxx's, we all have one.
