SOLD - 2013 200 Series - St. Louis, Missouri: OFF THE MARKET - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2013-200-series-st-louis-missouri-92-xxx-miles-in-immaculate-condition.1293525/#post-14639584
@VWEeplusa, I wanted to respond to the comments made on your thread here so as not to clutter your ad.
I can understand the frustration on both sides.
Allow me to share some perspective from a buyer that's been combing this subforum for many months: I think that all the buyers that frequent the classifieds here are a bit frustrated with how an overwhelming number of the sellers here are loosely motivated and typically bake in a several thousand dollar premium to their asking price. Why else are these ads sitting for weeks with no activity - even months? I'm as much a free market capitalist as they come, but I think there are many sellers here that are overpricing their vehicles for the purpose of making lofty returns from their fellow Mud members in a market that has so obviously softened. This is seen by most as contrast to the MUD community culture.
I'm not saying that this describes your situation.
There are several motivated buyers on this board right now that have been in the market for a long time -
I think that what's behind the sensitivity. They/I are/am ready to get into a vehicle and we're all weary from the unrealistic, unsuccessful WTB ads that have littered this board over the last several months.
I appreciate the input. Just now saw it as well, so apologize for the late acknowledgment.
My position is this:
1.) Mud members tend more often than not to be willing to utilize their rigs off road, modify their rigs, etc, and therefore aren’t as sensitive to condition and miles. That majority tends to be not as eager to pay top dollar with this in mind.
2.) The percentage of Mud members who are like me and won’t take their rig off road and who revel in having as close to perfect a condition as possible trends lower. We are out here, but we certainly aren’t as common, as after all, the term ’mud’ isn’t even in our lexicon!
3.) No buyer is not looking for a bargain regardless of what they claim.
4.) Value of Land Cruisers varies greatly across regions of the US.
5.) Used vehicles, especially those of higher value but also with risk of having been offroad are difficult to gauge from afar.
6.) I comb all the different sites and apps constantly (that as well as combing Zillow and Realtor apps are my favorite evening activities). I have owned Land Cruisers for the past 8+ years and have been in the position for the past couple years of always looking for that perfect low mileage, mint condition unicorn and when I find one, I will purchase it. This was / is one of those Land Cruisers.
It just so happens I recently found a 2015 w only 50K miles on it with a California background that was as clean and as well cared for. The low mileage really grabbed me, because I want something for when the Rivian comes that can serve as a back up that won’t depreciate and can be kept at low miles. Because I couldn’t make up my mind between selling my 100 series or the 2013 200 series, I figured I would start with the 200 Series. Now, here’s the biggest factor…..I DONT HAVE TO SELL THE VEHICLE. Do I think its worth $49,500.00 knowing everything about it, the care it receives and the daily pampering and perfecting I tend to do? ABSOLUTELY. Am I in a position to not sell a vehicle I really love unless I get what I am asking for it? ABSOLUTELY. So at the end of the day, I am NOT trying to milk a Mud member to pay premium prices. Simple fact is I am willing to sell if someone acknowledges its condition, value, care, etc, and not willing to sell otherwise.
Ultimately, no one has to agree with me. Although, a few folks on here came awfully close even without seeing it or driving it. I take no offense with anyone disagreeing with me. I welcome the debate. However, when someone goes out of their way to attempt to sabotage another member’s ability to sell and pass bias off as legitimate discourse, I will respond!
The overall unfortunate aspect about it is that there are those out there claiming condition that doesnt exist and value that doesnt exist and hiding conditions, details, etc, as they sell. It appears to me that eBay is filled w that, considering the handful I have actually driven that I have seen sold on eBay and weighing the pictures against the actually conditions. I don’t want to be that guy, and am not that guy, so I go out of my way to make even the slightest imperfections shown and in detail. I don’t think that retracts from the value when they are so minor and minuscule as to not be noticeable, but I dont want anyone thinking I’ll try to screw them over.
Again, I appreciate your input. Thanks for taking the time!
