I've seen some conversations touching on this topic in the past but don't recall which side the majority of the opinions fell - if any.
Given similar use and maintenance, which engine has the edge for longevity, the 6 or the 8? What tips the scale? Does the the 4.7 have a corresponding failure prone item like the 4.5 HG?
I'm the original owner of a 95 with factory lockers, cloth interior and 3rd row seats and presently at 116k miles. Since it has been in S Cal for the last 6 years (1st 4 in Chicago) rust has yet to show, except for my trailer hitch.
I'd like to keep it going for as long as possible if for no other reason than the fact that what its worth wouldn't buy anything as substantial. Having said that, every time I get a little flush, I get a hankering for the V8 100!
Since 80K+ of my miles were on the highway and the fluids were regularly changed, I'm hoping for 200K+, maybe push 300K.
