Some guys have good success w/metal 'putty'. It has a different name but that's essential what it is.

Do NOT use the bondo mesh patches. The solvents in monstaliner will dissolve the solvents in the bondo patches and they will sag or fall off entirely. You could probably conceal the aluminum better if you cut it in a wavy pattern on all 4 sides so its not a solid straight line.

I was planning on doing bindo, sanding the truck down a little , then shooting a coat of primer on the bondo and heavy sanded parts before applying monstaliner

Anyone know how much it would take to do the wheel wells? Gallon kits are $145 and quarts are $45 plus the rolling kit. Think I could get full coverage/2 or so coats in all 4 wheel wells with 1 quart?

Latech- problem is you need to wait for it to dry and your quart is curing at about the same rate. It's going to be real hard to stretch the cure time.

When in doubt over coverage you need to measure for total sq feet. Quart covers 15 sq ft in 2 coats. Gallon covers 60 sq ft, 2 coats

Can anyone verify that this spray can product matches correctly to the Cygnus White that people want Monstaliner to be available in?

Magnetman,

I color tinted my Monstaliner with the correct code for Cygnus White and sprayed it inside my 55. I also bought the Cruiser Corp's spray can Cygnus White, they do NOT match 100%. I'd say the spray can is a little lighter than the tinted Monstaliner.

Your color tinted product might be different, though.

Thanks for the reply. Color of the clear tintable liner will definitely affect final color some. Even when we mix our Monstashades tint with our own automotive paint bases there is a slight but acceptable difference in color. I tried purchasing some PPG auto paint toners to match Cygnus Wht but the color did not match any of the auto paint charts I have. It was almost a pale green and I think the guy in the store may have messed it up. Do you have any left of the toner you bought?

Magnetman,

I do have some left, but it also has a greenish tint to it. Code T012. Do you want me to send you a sample?

YOU HAVE EXCELLENT TASTE IRISH...

I was jut thinking the same thing. It looks just like my 60. I'd love to ML my truck in a color match to that blue. I love the color!

@magnetman Freedom Fried over top of existing black Monstaliner. Some body panels are new/ salvage and aren't black. Should I black primer them before applying the Freedom Fried? Will the black Monstaliner show through?

If you want it to be the same final color you need a similar color base layer, even with monstaliner. You have some panels that have monstaliner already and some that dont? If that's the case I would roll black on the ones that don't, then roll FF on the whole thing.

Just got off the phone with Monstaliner Tech Support. Guy (Zach?) was really friendly and generally helpful. They recommended using their universal primer with a custom FF tint over top of the existing black Monstaliner. He said the body panels that aren't already Monstalined black won't need the primer applied to them but if I have any extra I might go ahead and spray them too. This primer is like a universal product that is used to bond Monstaliner to wood & aluminum. It can be applied with rollers or sprayed. So I ordered a gallon, which should be enough to cover the back half of my 80 series. I should have guessed than FF wouldn't cover black well. I could've saved a little time waiting for this to ship. Shoot first, ask questions later, right?

Has anyone done a 80 series in the fj40 style with a white top? If so I would like to see a picture. This is what I am planning on doing to my 80 if it looks good. I was thinking of a dark or army green with a white top and maybe some retro badges. Good idea or stupid one? What do you guys think?
