Magnetman, how much MEK should a person use to thin out the Monstaliner? When I done the body, it was just guess work and near the end it got too thinned out. I have friend that is going to do his 40 and wanted to know if you can spray the Monstaliner over POR15?

I have only seen a very small amount of thinning with MEK in the instructions if you are spraying. Actually, that was the old instructions, it was not in the new literature.

The new instructions just say add 1 oz. of MEK to clean out the color can....

Mangnetman, check out my earlier post. Two up from this one. Can you spray monstaliner over existing factory undercoating?

Did you spray or roll it? It looks nice and smooth and almost glossy. I like that.

That is rolled. The gloss you see in the picture is heightened a bit by the light in the garage but it does have a surprising amount of gloss and is not entirely flat.

I would consult you to contact Magnet Paints (maker of ML) to see if they can do custom finishes.

For future reference.
@JayDoc posted in a different thread but had been wondering what this color looked like on a 60.

Color is Midnight Special

For those of you who have lined your 80 series....

How did you handle the roof gutters? Did you line inside the gutters or stop right before the gutters?

Thanks for the help/ advice!

I taped off along the bottom edge of the gutters a nice straight line. The top/ inside of the gutters got sprayed with liner and along the A pillars I used a brush to get coverage all the way in.

Thanks @AaronM33

Do you have an aftermarket roof rack? My only concern was that there might not be enough of a lip to hold the "feet" of the rack in the gutter... if I were to line the inside of the gutters

@yoter100 you're overthinking it. The coating isn't THAT thick and you have plenty of room to remount your gutter mounts.

Yeah this isn't like spraying bedliner in the bed of a truck where you are aiming for up to 1/8" thick coating... you are rolling on a small coat and then a second small coat. Most comment that when they are done with the first coat you can still slightly see the base through it, it is only when you add the second coat that it does complete coverage. And depending on how aggressive you are with the second coat determines the texture.

Sent off for my samples. Want to do the interior in bed liner, and the fact that I can tint this stuff is enticing. If I like it, I consider might do my entire FJ in it. Need's a Paint job one way or another.

Awesome looking product! Would I be able to coat over Durabak with this? I'm not fond the Durabak I used in my Aqualu tub. It's on a solid substrate I just want to sand & overcoat for a more smooth durable finish.
I have the same question, but with Gator Guard.

Does anyone have long-term results for this product? I'm planning to paint mine this summer, but I wonder if after 2+ years if it will begin to chalk or fade?
