RTH: Surface Prep

People who have Monstalined, does this surface prep look sufficient?

Anyone???

Magnet man:

The line is where the clear coat has completely disentigrated from UV exposure. The majority if the hood & roof are exposed paint, as the clear coat has flaked off.

This is pre - solvent wipe.

I plan to Monsterline mine once I get some other "small" projects done. Got the paint chips and picked my colour already (actually my Wife did :princess:).

Have you considered priming at least where the basecoat is exposed? It's not much extra work but will ensure a better job

Will do.

Thanks Magnetman for the response!

Magnetman. I use epoxy primer from southern poly. After I shoot it, I typically wait 24 hours then apply the topcoat. For your product would it be the same in that I would not need to scuff the primer (it will bond with the primer without mechanical scratching?)

Thanks,

Thanks,

As a general rule you should always follow the recoat guidelines for the primer being used. I don't foresee any issues topcoating in 24 hrs
Most epoxy primers have a longer recoat window than this

I have steekers that need to be displayed. Pictures coming soon :)

Yes, it has a 48-72 hour window. I just wanted to confirm that there was not any mechanical scratches needed.

Thanks.

Any chance on getting a tester batch of Cygnus white in 10-14 days or should I look for other options?

Need to get something to match. 10 -14 is possible

Is this something you need me to take action on? I apologize if I misunderstood, I thought you were going to order the ebay sample card or go to ACE with the mix. Did I miss something?

Trying to hook up with M32H32is to get some leftover tint which will be much better than the chip card and preferable over ACE or the spray paint link posted

Ahh.... ok. Thanks for the update.

This might be a dumb question but, do I need to mask twice (one for each coat of monstaliner)? If I wait six hours between coats might the bit I get on the masking tape cure too hard to remove the tape after the second coat? I'm going to be rolling black monstaliner on my fender areas tomorrow. Sanding, MEK, masking and drop sheeting are all done.

Explain better, is this a 2 color job or just black?

I never waited that long between coats, around an hour is all I waited. I'd be afraid of the unused bedliner getting hard, unless you're mixing up some fresh. I removed the tape after the last coat had time to set up.

Thanks man. Just black and only on the area where the fiberglass flares used to be. Your instructions say to do two coats a few hours apart. I just had a thought that the first coat, which will necessarily be, at least slightly, on the the masking tape will be too hard by the time the second coat has been applied. Then, after applying the second coat I won't be able to remove the tape due to the hardened first coat. Is this of any concern?
