Has anyone tried these Monroe MaxLift (Hood struts). I just got in a pair from Rock Auto. They are so difficult to compress I'm concerned they could damage the hood. It takes about ~160 lb to compress just one.

It takes a lot of force to lift the hood from that point on the hood where they connect to the hood. I would say they are fine. Try lifting the hood from that point manually with the struts disconnected. Its really hard to do.

Good point, not much leverage from the back side. I was just surprised I had do put all my weight on to compress. I could just see my hood folding in half as I close it. Or launching me through the air over the top of my rig.:poof:

Which hood? I'd be nervous with the new one too.

I can't comment on a specific force measure, but I had the same concern when I replaced my hood struts last year. The new ones seemed impossibly stiff, but sure enough, they were perfect and the hood stays up great now. I went with StrongArm supports.

camino70, Well I was going use on the LC, but I'll test on the LX with it's custom hood braces.

I just call Monroe tech support, they said lift force is 85 lb. Since only 3 lb more than you show crimsonaudio, it should be ok. Thanks

I never checked on the OEM lifts price. I was buying an idler pulley/bearing from Rock Auto, and just orders these to spread the shipping cost. Bought the idler because picture showed it had the OEM bearing, but it wasn't.
