Yep I have recommended it several times. Specifically in Lilevo's thread when he didn't want to go standalone and was fighting with the tuning.

Should of assumed so with your past experience. My turbo 80, its works, and fine tuning are relatively new to me and have not read ALL the threads...Yet:D Always more to learn:)
 
Good luck getting a piggy back system to work on an 80, it's been tried by many. The way the 80 handles closed loop and open loop with regard to OBDII is unlike many other 90's cars. I don't know of a single person or shop that's had success. There is a guy on the forum who's had his truck at a tuner for close to 6 months as they tried to get it to work. My own truck spent 3-4 months before going standalone wired in parallel. It might work on the earlier OBDI trucks I have no experience with them.

I have yet to use a piggy back AFC with an OBDII vehicle in general. That fact completely slipped my mind. Personally I would go standalone right off the bat. 1FZ's are such an expensive motor to rebuild, let alone modify internally (as I'm sure you're more aware of this than most), so why take a risk? I suggested trying an AFC as a possibility for those trying to save money. Evidently, a piggy back controller is tried and UNtrue for our trucks, so thanks for your insight!

FThis is how I monitor everything I want. All gauges up high, close to top of dash. With trifocals it is much easier to see them when they are all in the same plane. I made a custom mount for the Ultragauge. It does not block airflow from the dash vents that it resides between. The boost/vacuum combo gauge is a Harbor Freight Specil for $20. I don't need to micro-measure those values. I use it to monitor performance. If I see consistent numbers for consistent driving conditions then I figure it is working the same way it always has. Same way I monitor other things like voltage, temperature, oil pressure, etc. I am not flying to the moon for NASA or racing for NASCAR, so I don't feel the need to have extremely accurate/detailed info that goes 6 digits right of the decimal.

Hopefully your oil pressure in not accurate:eek:
 
Oh gotcha! Yeah when it's cold even though I run a 0w40, it reads higher until the truck is hot.

We are in Phoenix were its never cold, current temp 70°. Both of mine sets at 1/4 at idle.:meh:

First pic does not show needle on oil pressure gauge. Here is pic with better view of that gauge 4.5 hours after going to lunch, so cold for here. Engine temp at 136. Don't want anyone to loose sleep about oil starvation on my rig. This is with 9875 ish mileson current oil. Hard to get camera in perfect position for pic. Camera only has one lense in it but I have two so easier to see better in stereo.
