I took my family down to moab with some friends of ours. We set out in the morning to run Poison Spider Mesa. We started up the trail just as a major downpour started. The waterfalls were everywhere, there was probably 3”+ of water running down the trail. It was an Epic trip for sure and a very rare experience as well.

Agreed...would like to see the video !!

I don’t see the flash flood? Is it a big thing because not use to rain in those parts of the world? That amount of rain, to me and where I live, is nothing, I go for leisurely walks in that stuff :meh:

For those who don't live close by... Moab is a desert. Typically, there is no standing water anywhere. Within a couple hours of these videos, I'm sure the ground was was totally dry. These were flash floods for sure. Those muddy washes can go from bone dry to full rapid within seconds. If you hear a rumble of water when you are in a canyon, climb to high ground. Water will suddenly rush around a corner. People in Arizona, Utah and Colorado die every year when they get surprised by the water. In many cases, they are so far downstream and they don't even see any rain, just the flood.

On the way back a few hours later that water crossing was actually dusty. It’s amazing how fast it dries out. In One of the videos you can see a large waterfall coming off the sandstone. That started almost instantly and ended almost instantly. It’s rare to catch this occurrence in the desert. It was pretty special for us.

Cool but scary also if that’s the case! Where I grew up it was white-out conditions in the winter that was scary and dangerous. You could be scooting along on a snowmobile and and then heavy snowfall, like that rain, hits. Visibility goes to zero. It’s scary if you are in a dangerous area. I had a friend and his girlfriend die several years ago when they decided to continue in such conditions. They went over a cliff into the ocean, bodies were never found!

Aside from the flood part I really liked the second video where the cruiser just eases up the knarly tail, rocks and all like its no big deal. Very impressive!

The third video with the waterfalls is not to be missed. 👍
