Then you will need to have someone in front of you...the rock isn't that bad (I drove up to it). I heard the ledge on top (past the ruts) was over 4 feet...mandatory winch.

Slickrock is really fun. I did it last May in my 4Runner and had a blast. That last ledge is huge and getting bigger. It is also a wheelbase obstacle, so unless it's really that much bigger since last May I think you can make it Dan. I did not make it (I drove all of it except the last ledge), however after studying the video of it later I think it was possible for me-two Tacoma's with us went right up it on the first try-both were IFS on 35's, one only had a rear locker-of course I only have 33's. But the Tacoma wheelbase may be just enough longer to make the difference. You can check out some vids of it from last May on my photobucket page:

I would imagine though in January that there will be plenty of ice, making slickrock extremely hard if not impossible w/o a winch.

Yeah JP went right up Slickrock last oct but that ledge got him. It was probably near 4' then.

When I was up there last week the folks running slickrock said the ledge was very huge...upward of 5' and that even the hybrids were winching it.

In our group the only ones to make it were a Tacoma Ext Cab locked rear only on 35's, dual locked Tacoma Ext Cab on 35's and a '95 SAS 4Runner. There were several buggies there at that time too-none of them made it as easy as the 3 vehicles I just said. In fact, some of the buggies winched. It's really only possible if you drive the wall on the left side going up-even then there is only a very slight chance of making it.

Where exactly is that house? Just wondering if I came up and stayed elsewhere, how far apart we would be.

I'll take a twin bed, Marshall if there are any left. Saves me from bring more crap with me from Florida

You planning on hauling that tranny? I talked to Keil and he said you might be dropping a tranny on me :)

Don't know what tranny that is, Dan. I brought one up for someone over a year ago and left it at Hard40's shop for someone to pick up there. I know it sat theer for quite a while and may still be there. Could that be the one? If so, either myself or Alan will gladly bring it up, if that is the one we are talking about.

I am also delivering a set of tires to Columbia on my way up. However, I may bring those if I come up at Christmas.

For some reason Jim I thought it was taken but I think that was because I thought I might stay in one and like someone else have a room. But You are more than welcome to have it. I'm trying to convince the wife to come on this one so we might need a room.

It's west of the trails. The one we had last year took about 30- 45 min to from the state line.

This one is a little further maybe 45 min total time. If it is snowing it will be a lot further. But since we are going out on the trails Sat morning and returning that evening I don't mind the drive. The idea of going back and getting in a hottub is worth the drive. Or at least it was last time.

How many are you going to have in your gang?

Who knows. In the past, the MLK Run has been large, but the Leaky Seals has kind of dropped off and the Missippi guys didn't come last year either, so last year was a small group of about 10 of us with 6 rigs. Looks to be around 5 or 6 this year.

Yeah, it will be a last minute decision for me. I'll have to see what funds are left and what I feel like b/c this ride is a week after I get back from hiking in the Smokies for a week.

Sorry were all going to the TTR ride in TX for 07.

I was die-hard last year and attended both:D MLK run and then 2 days later was at your house preparing for Gilmer. woo hoo
May not attend either this year.
