Pretty sure it's an XP only deal there. One of the reason's mine has been sitting around to be honest. I think you need to get on your XP box and try it out. Seems like if it would connect it would work though in Vista. Saw several guys on the Tundra board say that they had to get an XP box for it to be usable though.

If you have Vista Pro try XP mode but that still may not get it taken care of.
 
Well my buddy is coming over to put XP on one of my laptops tonight so I'll post up if that solves all the issues.
 
Well I installed it on my buddies XP machine and we tried it again on his Tundra. Works marginally better but still crashes constantly.

Same error codes everytime. Always a comm problem. I'm pretty sure it's the knockoff m-VCI.

I would say to anyone looking to purchase this that just be forewarned that you are getting what you pay for. It may or may not work on your vehicle. I lucked out. It works on mine.

Seeing how useful the program is now I may just bite the bullet and buy the full meal deal. The whole (extended) family drives Toyota's so it will get plenty of use.:cheers:
 
Just got my Mini VCI.. being a nube... didn't know I needed a 22pin connector for my 2005 LC.. the one I purchased is 16 pin. So.. I went back to their site and bought the 16 to 22 pin converter.. hope it works.???
 
Anyone get this to work on windows 8 yet?

I got the software to boot and connect to the car, but the hack doesn't work.

Long shot here, but does anyone have one of these cables in the Northern CA area, or anywhere on this half of the country? I actually have one coming on the slow boat from Hong Kong, but have a project that I'd like to use it for this weekend while I have the free time. If anyone has the cable, I'd come by to pick it up or pay to have it overnighted, then send it back when mine arrives. Send me a PM if you can help.
 
I'm on the other side of the country so am no help. The USB mini vci cable is the easy bit, you need to load and run the cracked tech stream and provided vci driver on a 32 bit Windows XP machine. Not saying it can't/won't run in a XP emulation environment on a newer machine, but trying to do this has caused lots of frustration for some. So if you have access to an old XP brick then that is the way to go IMO.

Nevermind, just got home and the package was waiting for me. Quicker than I thought, about 6 days delivery time. I do have a netbook running Win XP that I use for navigation, hoping that will do the trick!

There's just waaaaay tooooo much info on this AHC thing and I just can't comprehend/grasp the topic yet?

For '99 LX 470, Do i need a 16 pin or a 22 pic connector?

Do I need to buy the cable separate?

Can any one post some helpful LX 470 links here in this thread?

I will now leave and spend some more hours trying to read about the Techstream and the VCI cable :crybaby:

16 pin obd2 connector. don't even know what the 22 pin would be used for, unless its the old diag connector. but even then ive never hooked up the scan tool to the diag connecter I always just used the jumper wire.
 
Wanted to give this another bump before I made the purchase. Anyone tried v9? I know there are several vendors selling this for in the $30-$40 range but cannot find any specific indication that those will program keys. All claim to have "diagnostic" capability, but not necessarily programming functionality. I emailed the seller above and they indicated the difference is one could program keys (among other things), and the other could not. Any input would be appreciated.

Mini VCI

I purchased a Mini VCI cable to perform diagnostics on a Toyota from an online site and it arrived with a cd containing drivers, the Techstream software, and some PDF documents with instructions.

The main files of interest on the cd were ‘MVCI Driver for TOYOTA’ and ‘Toyota Techstream 8.00.034′. Reading the instructions it required me to install the MVCI driver followed by the Techstream software.

The MVCI driver repeatedly failed to install so after a quick search it appeared that other people also had this issue when using 64 bit versions of Windows 7, I was running 64 bit Windows 8.

The solution was very simple are required manually extracting the MVCI driver, I used 7 zip which worked very well but the are many other applications that will extract this installer. The steps are as follows:

  1. Create the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for Toyota TIS
  2. Open the file MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi with 7zip and extract to the folder you created.
  3. Browse to the folder with Windows Explorer.
  4. Right click on the file ftdiport.inf and select install.
  5. Right click on the file ftdibus.inf and select install.
Connect the Mini VCI cable and run the application FirmwareUpdateTool and click the Device Info button. If your device is showing as connected then it is ready to be used with Techstream.

I extracted the TIS KEY.exe in Winzip to get the IT3System.ini to unlock the software.


On my 01 LX470 I can enable/disable the auto park/deploy of the steering column, and read my AHC pressures, but thats about all I have tried so far. I want to see if I can bleed my brakes with it next. I'd also like to know what else I can fiddle with on an 01. I think it varies more by the year of manufacture than by the version of the software. I think the version I have is plenty up to date for the older vintage hundys. I have not had any crashing issues yet - touch wood.

I need to disable the auto tilt/telescoping of the steering wheel. Unnecessary wear and tear, and it already makes a scratching noise when telescoping. I want to disable the DRL and hopefully reprogram some of the auto climate control functions as well.

So, which did you end up going with? I see in the "What have you done to your 100 this week" thread you got it installed and was able to update the auto tilt/telescoping setting.

Funny that a paper-clip was beyond your reach.
Easy to do. Find the connector under the bonnet, locate the 2 connectors, plug in the paper-clip, go behind the wheel, push the brake multiple times within 8 seconds, ready. There is an instruction somewhere.

But as long as the error is gone, that's the main thing.
 
Guys, I've tried several times to load the techstream software onto my laptop.

I tried it with Windows 7 and MVCI cable software would not load.

I tried it with virtual XP and everything loaded but there is a connection problem.

Any suggestions on how to make the software work would be much appreciated as I'd really like to get the readings on the AHC.
 
What did it show?
When I did it I had to replace a certain file, not sure which one but it was shown on youtube.

It was not able to connect to the car. "No connection".

I try to do the MVCI device info and it shows as no connection, then I did the cable test under help menu and again all showed up as red as none of the pins were connected.

I replaced the required file as instructed into YouTube video. Everything sets up as it's supposed to except when I hit connect a vehicle, it shows as "no connection".
