It was not able to connect to the car. "No connection".

I try to do the MVCI device info and it shows as no connection, then I did the cable test under help menu and again all showed up as red as none of the pins were connected.

I replaced the required file as instructed into YouTube video. Everything sets up as it's supposed to except when I hit connect a vehicle, it shows as "no connection".
Do you think the mvci driver is loading? There is a LED in the unit's plug that should illuminate and you should see an x-horse mini icon in the bottom bar of XP, click that and see if the driver is responding. You've got you ignition on when you try and connect? The tundra.net site has a wealth of info and dedicated TechStream threads, you might find the answer there.

Thanks for the info. I don't see an icon at the bottom right for the exorcist plug. I don't think the computer is recognizing the plug, I do have The ignition on when I test it.

I'll check the tundra site.

Try an older version of techstream. Worked when I used mine; went back to the 7.0 version. Current is around 9.0.

Got my steering wheel to stop automatically moving up when the key was out......really annoying lx habit.

Thanks,

Todd H

Do you know how and where I can download an earlier version? I have version 8

Just do a forum search on Tundra forums, fj forums, or toyota nation. If no luck I'll send you a copy of mine.

Thanks,

Todd H.

I just ordered one. I already have an ELM 327 (look on Amazon) which lets me monitor real-time diagnostics on my phone and tablet, but it doesn't allow for programming. This cable looks legit.

Here's the forum the OP referenced: http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tu...on/109367-techstream-software-cable-35-a.html

My cable is from the same shop http://www.uobd2.net/wholesale/mini-vci-for-toyota-tis-techstream-v500028-single-cable-2442.html $34, free shipping. I also bought a mvci, which costs $89, but the Techstream software is the same as mini vci... Anyway, I have used it to:

-turn off the DRL's
-remove the seat belt reminder
-reset transmission adapted memory
-read live streaming data

Check the wire connector

Guys, I've tried several times to load the techstream software onto my laptop.

I tried it with Windows 7 and MVCI cable software would not load.

I tried it with virtual XP and everything loaded but there is a connection problem.

Any suggestions on how to make the software work would be much appreciated as I'd really like to get the readings on the AHC.

Mine is an original tool and works well...Is your cable a knock-off?

I Guess it is the connector... googled the issue and found this article, hope it helps

Just got this thing working on my Win 7 64 bit laptop. Originally had issues, but followed this work around posted on the obd365 blog:
http://blog.obd365.com/2014/03/10/h...yota-tis-techstream-8-x-on-windows-78-64-bit/

I followed those instructions exactly, and now it works perfectly. I tested it on both my wife's '05 Sienna and my '98 LC.

Also, I originally followed the advice of picking Europe for region, but TechStream (ver 9.30.002) always prompted me for a vehicle code instead of auto detecting the make and model. Once I switched it over to North America, all was good.

Thank you for your advice. I ordered another cable and software on eBay, given it so cheap I thought I'd give it another try... I'll let you guys know.

Just got my cable and CD. Installed on old XP laptop. All went well. Turned key on in truck, connected cable to truck then to laptop. It kept asking for a registration key code. Don't have one, and no file on CD that corresponds to a key hack. Then I told it to connect to the car, error, error, then ran OBDII, connected. Backed out. Then told it to connect, and all went well. Manually chose the LX option. Turned off the telescoping steering wheel return. It does run slowly, but it runs.

Will try to connect again tomorrow and pull AHC values.

Would also like to see if it will code a new blank key for my LC that I'm picking up tomorrow.

This site renamed, it is now: http://www.uobd2.net/wholesale/mini-vci-for-toyota-tis-techstream-v500028-single-cable-2442.html. Wish it is helpful for those who are planning to get a techstream from them. Techstream really works well as many users proved.

I just wanted to report back on my success with the $26 cable on amazon. Its the first one that pops up when you search for mini-vci. It shipped with Techstream 9.10.038.

My laptop runs WinXP. Install instructions are very simple, copy the CD onto your hard-drive, install the .msi file, then Techstream, then go into C:\Program Files\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\Env\ and open IT3System.ini in Notepad. Change TISFunction=1 to TISFunction=0, and you're done!

I was able to plug in, connect to the vehicle, choose North America as the region, and it recognized the make model and year although the VIN did not populate automatically. Regardless, I was able to run all the normal checks on the AHC system, and customize the locks and shut-off the auto retract function on the telescopic steering wheel.

So I have the Techstream running with the MVCI cable, and I can reprogram keys and turn of the auto telescopic function but I dont seem to have access to customize anything else like door locks, seat belt reminders, or light settings. When I select to open the customize menu for those categories, I just get a window with blank boxes. Could this be because of the version that I am using or do you think those settings aren't available on my year model LX or something? I would think that I should be able to customize more. Any input from those running this setup is appreciated.

I'm using V8.00.034 on a 2001 LX. I thought it updated to V9 but it still show V8 at the top of the techstream when open.

It's not your TechStream version, but most likely these features either aren't user adjustable in a 2001 or maybe you haven't hit the correct screen yet. I'm running V7 TechStream for my '03 and have adjusted the headlight and interior light off timing, sun roof and window auto opening, steering wheel telescoping, door lock on gear shift etc. Haven't tried adjusting DRL or seat belt chime. As I understand things a new full version release of TechStream folds in the previous 2 years of toyota model releases and fixes known bugs so running V9 for a 2001 won't offer more functionality, the limiting factor is how accessible mr T made the ECUs in each model year.
