There is a $35 vehicle interface cable that comes with version 7 Techstream software and drivers that let me check/change a number of variables in my LX. I'm not a vendor, nor affiliated in any way - just purchased it off the web after reading several references to it while researching AHC threads here in Mud. It has been extensively discussed on Tundra Net (search TechStream software and cable for $35) , if anyone is interested in learning more.

This weekend I used it to:
a. read AHC pressures to correctly crank TBs (4 turns, both sides on original set up @ 116k did the trick) - front pressures now at nominal spec and confirmed rear springs are a little tired as rear AHC pressure just outside range. A valid pressure test removes a lot of speculation and blind cranking of TB's on AHC vehicles. And yes, based on hitting my local calibrated speed hump at 30 mph it does dampen better with the correct TB/front pressure loading.
b. reset steering angle sensor to get rid of annoying 10 degree off centered wheel. Not sure how many alignment places reset the SAS as a matter of course, or if you don't ask for it specifically. I know my local Firestone does a reasonable alignment in that the truck drives straight, equal turning effort and no uneven tire wear - but the wheel was never centered properly. Only time I had it aligned at the stealer they charged an extra $10, on top of the $129, to reset the SAS.
c. verified yaw and zero yaw sensor values were set to "0"
d. turn off the 3s delayed wipe after using windshield washer.
e. turn on "unlock all doors" with one push on remote (already had manually set lock/unlock on shifting from "P").
f. adjusted headlight off and interior light delays.
g. ran "vehicle health check" and OBDII live tests to monitor O2 sensor voltages among other things, and won't be buying replacement sensors (still original) now. No DTC or MIL, its just that some say 02s need to be replaced as a PM item, and others don't feel the same way. So until I get a DTC I'll leave them alone.

I haven't used TechStream from the TIS site so can't compare or comment on features and functions of the "official" software to what comes on the mini CD (07.010.030 cracked), but I'm happy. Just changing the remote unlock and centering the wheel was worth $35 to me! Still learning what can and can't be done, what utility/test features are enabled and what's not, and what all the data means.

How did you reset the steering angle sensor?

Can you give me a pointer on where to get this? PM if necessary?

first off - I read relevant sections of FSM to have an idea of what to expect. Then loaded software, hooked up cable, established vehicle comms, selected "VGRS ecu", selected "utility" function and followed the wizard prompts - engine off, ignition on, wheels ahead, flat ground, unlock VGRS actuator, center steering wheel, ignition off then back on, wiggle wheels right then left then back to center, it calibrates for 5 seconds, confirm VGRS light off - you're done. The wizard follows the FSM flow chart's process. Take it for a spin and do again to make it just perfect instead of almost right.

Fyi - I have used the Techstream from the TIS site and from the Mini VCI. It's the same software, just hacked. TIS will come out with more updates to the Techstream software over time, but from my experience in this case, 07.010.030 cracked is the same as 07.010.030 uncracked from TIS. From what I see, the .dll's that do the real work aren't even touched/cracked - it's just an isolated .dll that's used for registration logic that gets cracked. Also, MiniVCI is just redistributing a known crack that's out there - they didn't crack it themselves or provide a tweaked version of TIS - they're just taking someone else's crack and redistributing it.

So don't lose any sleep on differences b/w this and the 'real thing' - it is the real thing.

Also - there are a few LX/LC specific threads here on IH8Mud about Techstream. I'd expect them to be in search results for Techstream, Mini VCI, Tactrix etc.

confirmed rear springs are a little tired as rear AHC pressure just outside range.

You can consider adding some trim packers to the rear springs to increase the preload and put the rear AHC in the optimal range again.

I'd imagine 5mm would do the trick - http://man-a-fre.com/parts_accessories/Trim Packers.htm
Since rear 80-series springs are compatible with 100-series, their trim packers should be as well.

Thanks for the pointer for the cable...I've ordered mine and plan to get my pressures dialed in as well.

I bought the techstream cable kit from that original thread too and haven't even tried it out. Guess I should tinker with it sometime... :hhmm:

So I just got this in the mail. Hooked it up on my Windows Vista 32 bit machine. Everything seems to work ok except that Techstream crashes when I try to read the engine/ECT data list.

I'm assuming the issue is with the cheap knock-off VCI? Anyone else have any issues. Going to try it with XP but I don't think it's a problem with the OS.

I did manage to reset a few features though so I suppose that made it worth the whole $35.

Would be nice to be able to utilize the data list for the engine.

Also I guess since these are bootleg copies of techstream there's no way to find out the current calibration ID's from TIS?

At least it shows you what your current calibration ID is. Anyway to find out what the most current ID is without hooking up to TIS with the techstream software?

Anyone?

So I managed to get the Datalist working for the engine/ect ECU after repeated tries but it seems to have an intermittent communication problem. Definitely thinking it's the mini-vci. Maybe I'll just get a mongoose.

Try swapping m-VCI with someone else - could be a lemon. Or try another laptop first - whatever is easier.

Ya those are on the list to try. I don't know anyone here with a m-vci though. Most of my friends are afraid of technology and drive 20 year old diesels. lol To them a VCI is something you get in Bangkok and take drugs to get rid of. :)

I've been running on an old XP without hangups, only issue I found was the cable to vehicle DLC connection was not as firm as it could be.

Maybe that's all it is. Didn't cross my mind though because everything else worked fine. It was just the datalist for Engine/ect ecu that had a problem.

Well I haven't got it installed on the XP machine yet but I did try to hook the setup up to my neighbours 06 Tundra.

It connects to the vehicle just fine but as soon as you try anything, healthcheck, datalist etc. the whole program shutsdown.
