try that for a driver if you want. It's legit, windows 32b install. I have it on two laptops, works fine.

I use techstream 7.11 if you need help I can try.
Jerry- Thanks for your help. I tried your version but that will not open for me. I've reached out to the vendor I got my cable from & we'll see if they respond with a recommendation.

Edit: 10-27 I went back and removed & reloaded my 9.10.038 version and made the change to IT3System.ini in the C: Program files\Toyota Diagnostics \Techstream\Env. from 1 to 0. Works now. I do wonder about the difference between choosing the North America & Europe version setup function as it displays a different screen format.

There is a $35 vehicle interface cable that comes with version 7 Techstream software and drivers that let me check/change a number of variables in my LX. I'm not a vendor, nor affiliated in any way - just purchased it off the web after reading several references to it while researching AHC threads here in Mud. It has been extensively discussed on Tundra Net (search TechStream software and cable for $35) , if anyone is interested in learning more.

This weekend I used it to:
a. read AHC pressures to correctly crank TBs (4 turns, both sides on original set up @ 116k did the trick) - front pressures now at nominal spec and confirmed rear springs are a little tired as rear AHC pressure just outside range. A valid pressure test removes a lot of speculation and blind cranking of TB's on AHC vehicles. And yes, based on hitting my local calibrated speed hump at 30 mph it does dampen better with the correct TB/front pressure loading.
b. reset steering angle sensor to get rid of annoying 10 degree off centered wheel. Not sure how many alignment places reset the SAS as a matter of course, or if you don't ask for it specifically. I know my local Firestone does a reasonable alignment in that the truck drives straight, equal turning effort and no uneven tire wear - but the wheel was never centered properly. Only time I had it aligned at the stealer they charged an extra $10, on top of the $129, to reset the SAS.
c. verified yaw and zero yaw sensor values were set to "0"
d. turn off the 3s delayed wipe after using windshield washer.
e. turn on "unlock all doors" with one push on remote (already had manually set lock/unlock on shifting from "P").
f. adjusted headlight off and interior light delays.
g. ran "vehicle health check" and OBDII live tests to monitor O2 sensor voltages among other things, and won't be buying replacement sensors (still original) now. No DTC or MIL, its just that some say 02s need to be replaced as a PM item, and others don't feel the same way. So until I get a DTC I'll leave them alone.

I haven't used TechStream from the TIS site so can't compare or comment on features and functions of the "official" software to what comes on the mini CD (07.010.030 cracked), but I'm happy. Just changing the remote unlock and centering the wheel was worth $35 to me! Still learning what can and can't be done, what utility/test features are enabled and what's not, and what all the data means.
How Mini VCI Cable for Toyota program Lexus ES330 new key?

This is a guide for using Mini VCI Cable for Toyota TISTechstream to make a new key for Lexus ES330 2005. Following are operating steps for your reference.

Step1. Buy a new key with remote, take out both new key and original key remote chip and fit the original remote chip in the new key shell. So you can use the new key to turn ignition on. Then connect the MINIVCI J2534 Toyota TIS Cable to car OBD2 port and laptop USB port. Open TIS Techstream software.

Step2. Click “Connect to vehicle”, it will show you car information automatically. Click “Next”.

Click “Immobilizer”

Then click “Key Registration” then “Next”.

Step3. It will ask you to remove the new key from key cylinder then insert it again to turn ignition on.

Remove the key from key cylinder within 20 seconds then click “Next”.

Insert the new key you want to program within 10 seconds. (Now you need to change the original remote chip back with the new unprogrammed chip) And please remember just insert the key, not to turn on ignition. Click “Next”.

Step4. Wait for about 75 seconds to complete key registration. MINI VCI Cableprograms the new remote key for Lexus ES330 successfully! Now click “Quit” to stop Techsteam and test the new key with your car!

Quick question: Where do you connect the cable? I ordered one and it is scheduled to be delivered between November 14 and December 1. Does the cable connect to the regular OBDII port above the accelerator pedal? Mine is a 2006 Land Cruiser. I know there is another DLC under the hood on the passenger side but I am unsure of the difference. In some documentation I have read regarding AHC testing, the procedure refers to DLC1 and DLC3. Can someone help me understand what connectors they are referring to on my vehicle?

Techstream (~ Hand Held Tester) connects via your OBDII port in the footwell, Toyota/Lexus call it DLC3 - Data Link Connector - and DLC1 is the connector under the hood. It provides easier access (for me at least) to the main players for AHC diagnostics which are the Ts, Tc and E1 ports. Regardless, Tc and Ts are connected in parallel.
It's worth noting that there is some erroneous info for the DLC3 terminal pin outs. I have Toyota EWDs and Diagnostics pages that represent terminal Ts as on pin 12 or pin 14 - this makes a big difference to your fault finding efforts! If you're going to use DLC3 it's worth physically verifying your connections and validating your data. For my 03 LX I have Ts (white wire) on terminal 12 and Tc (pink/black) on terminal 13. Cg in DLC3 is E1 and I've always seen it on terminal 4.
HTH.

I bought a Techstream on Amazon to program a key and it won't work. Says it can't communicate with the ECU. It seems to work fine for everything else, but it won't program a key. Good thing it was only $22.

This is very helpful. Since the documentation and FSM pages you sent me were for an LX, it shows the DLC on the left side of the footwell. Had me totally confused.

My techstream version I purchased is 10.10.018. Anyone used this version successfully?

Just in case anyone is dealing with same problem I was, of finding a workable platform for the mini-vci/techstream combination.

I had been running an old temperamental (XP) Thinkpad as my Techstream laptop, but was getting tired of it. So, I loaded an XP VM on one of my Macbooks and fiddled with that a bit. It worked, but seemed just as temperamental as the old laptop. This weekend, I decided to try something crazy with an older Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet that was sitting unused in a drawer in my office. It was running Windows 8 32-bit, and needed an “USB OTG to USB 2.0” adapter to connect the mini-VCI cable, but the (included with the mini-VCI cable) mini-VCI driver & Techstream software fired right up and performed much better than any of the previous solutions that I have used. It also has the benefit of being something that I can throw in the center console when not in use.

I received my Mini VCI cable and software today but the CD was damaged and I cannot use the disk. Where can I get the cable driver and the Techstream software? Is it available for download? I tried the above links but got errors.

Same here. Uobdii put the CD and cable in a padded envelope, shipped from China! Skewed up smallest in two. Complained, they gave me a download site for the ISO that is crawling with viruses and doesn't work anyway. Watch out for these losers!

Several members on here sent me links to download the software but I couldn't get it to stop asking for the serial number. I kept using the "Evaluate" button but it will only let you do that a couple of times before it forces you enter another key. I un-installed and re-installed it to fix the problem and it worked but was a PITA.

I contacted the seller and he sent me a link where I was able to download the software and get it working. The site was in Chinese so it took a couple of emails for him to explain which button to click on but I finally got it downloaded and working without needing a key. What a relief! I've been diagnosing the crap out of my P0420 and P0430 codes since and it has been EXTREMELY helpful.

Would it be possible to send me this site and the instructions on how to decipher the site? I was just about to ask about this very thing as I can only use evaluate twice before it kicks me out and asks for a serial #.

Thanks!

Sent you a PM
I'd appreciate it mucho' of you could give me a hand too...same exact issue as HokieLX.

You can pm or email me from here.

Tnx.

Steve

How to install mini vci with Techstream v10 on 64bit computer
Just received Techstream cable last night and installed the software on my 64 bit computer. Installation was not plug and play, but it is quite doable.

Since I am expecting to use Techstream quite a bit, I thought I would start a thread. For future Techstream users, here are the instructions I used to get the software connected to my vehicle for the 64 bit application:

TIS Techstream V10 Setup Instruction ( !!! for 64 bit system !!! ) :

1. copy ” Program Files (x86) ” folder to drive C:\ , tick ” replace all current items ”

2. plug the Mini VCI cable into USB

3. Open the Device Manager and locate two failing devices in the list. Both will appear with yellow icon (usually under ”Other”), indicating that Windows failed to install drivers for them. Now, right click each failing device, select Install Driver, then ”Browse my Computer” and locate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS” (enable the ”include subfolders” flag). Click ”Next” and wait until drivers are installed.

You should now see two new devices: ”Universal Serial Bus Controllers\USB Serial Converte” and ”Ports (COM & LPT)\USB Serial Port (COMx)”.

4. Run the FirmwareUpdateTool.exe from the “C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS”. Click ”Device Info”, You should see the ”Device connected” screen.

5. Now install Techstream software using “Techstream_Setup_V10.10.018.exe” on our software CD

6. Software Registration: copy the two *.ini files in ”Registration” folder to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\Env\
* Attention: It’s C:\Program Files (x86) not C:\Program Files\ , BIG DIFFERENCE !!!

7. Registry Hack: Run the mvci-64bit.reg file to modify the registry for Techstream to recognize MINI-VCI under Windows x64

8. Run Techstream software. Go to Setup | VIM Select menu and select the ”XHorse – MVCI”

11. Connect Mini VCI cable to your car‘s OBDII interface, turn ignition on, then click ”Connect to Vehicle” in Techstream. Wait. Then wait again. If everything works, you will be prompted to confirm car year/model after which you’ll get to the diagnostic interface.

* Important Note:
1. DO NOT change the “User Type” when you will run your TIS Techstream for 1st time! LEAVE IT with the Default option! “Official” Dealer/Repairer with other words…
2. in [ VIM Select ] option, please select the [ Xhorse – MVCI ], not [ TIS Techstream VIM ]
3. If you get the following reminder while using the program:
—————————————————————-
Register Techstream Software (S314-03)
Network connection is unavailable. A network connection is required to use Techstream software.
You can only connect 29 more times without a network connection before software registration is required.
—————————————————————
You can reset that as following steps:
Go to C:\Program Files\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\Env and find ”IT3usercustom.ini” file and look for ”Connectioncount=1” or what ever number of times you tried and just delete ”connectioncount=1”. Click save and you should be reseted back to 30

Long story short - I had TS working on an older MacBook running XP on it with Bootcamp. I'm not an IT expert by any stretch but was able to get it up and running on the first try.

That device along with many other things were stolen from our house earlier this year. Fortunately, the thieves left the VCI cable for me! After reading many threads on TS I just ordered a HP Stream 7 32GB Windows 8.1 Tablet to try and get TS back up and running. We'll see how it goes this time around.
