So far...

Bought: 1997 on 1/5/2004 with 93k miles.

Current Miles: 108k

Replaced:
radiator by previous owner (I think this was more due to an accident)
EGR Modulator (check engine light was on at purchase time)
EGR VSV
Vacuum lines to EGR modulator and VSV

Things I think were replaced by PO:
Starter (it looks new and I think I see a parts tag on it)

Soon:
I think my steering box isn't quite right but I believe it was from a before ownership accident where the drag link was replaced along with the whole front clip of the truck including grill and headlights and radiator (however the air bags didn't go off?!?)

If you can't tell my truck has a little bit of mystery to it. Not Jersey mystery but enough to make you go hmmm.

Also I have a slight oil leak from the rear oil pan seal near the rear main seal.

Everything else is either maintenance or just replacing interior parts that wear out over 7 years (well the ones I think are worn).

'91 177k now, 169k when purchased.
2 oxygen sensors
valve cover gasket/valve adjustment
driver's seat rip repair
cruise control sensor on transfer case
new radiator just before I bought it

NOTHING MAJOR

'97 LC bought with 73k. Now 75k.
Nothing major done or anticipated to be done besides normal maintenance, except for the *&^&^%^%$%$^ roof rack nutserts that got rusty. Nightmare repair but could have been avoided.
May do Birfs soon as PM, but no soup or clicking to date.
Antenna out of commission, and one semi-loose front wheel bearing at purchase.
Appears that PO had rotors changed around 50K or so.
So far, so good...! Knock on my head...

97 Land Cruiser. Bought in 2003 with 104K. Now 118K

Routine service (oil, plugs, etc..)
Birfield Repack
Starter Contacts

1997 FZJ80

Bought: August 2004 123K $11500
Current: January 135K

Maintenance done:

1. Front axle job/Birfield repack
2. Front brake pads/rotors
3. Routine fluids (all systems mainlined to M1 synth.)
4. New Tires: GY MTR's
5. Took off POS roof rack/running boards
6. Cat back OEM muffler work
7. Cupholder

Pending (most of this work will occur when the weather warms up--march/April):

1. Extended diff breathers
2. stainless steel brake lines (slee)
3. Cooling system flush/refill
4. Throttle body clean
5. Rear axle job (parts from Dan)
6. Sliders (purchase from concretejungle)
7. OME lift (still deciding between med or heavy)
8. CDL/7-pin mod

Most solid truck ever, IMHO!!

Best.

A neighbor friend bought a used 1997 Tahoe. He is much older and dosen't have a
computer, so I said I would check on any problems a 97 might have, bla bla bla. I went on the best web site I could find chevytalk.com to get any information on Tahoe's. Many people consider the Tahoe on the same
level as the Landcruiser. QUOTE]

I needed a good laugh today. The Tahoe is on the same level as The Land Cruiser. I think they have the same grocery carrying capacity. The comparison ends there.

Bought at 102K 5 years ago. Where do I start?

Front axle rebuild
Head gasket
New alternator due to water & mud damage
new battery
new all metal radiator / plastic top died
new oil pan and gasket
new rear t-case output seal
3 sets of belts
ome lift and springs as stock shocks had died
2 valve adjustments
4 sets of tires
new egr and o2 sensors
rear drum replacements and axle rebuild
killed the head at ~230k so the 350 tbi went in
dual batteries
arb lockers front and rear
dual electric fans on radiator to eliminate pulley fan
new exhaust and cats with tucked in Magna Flow between the frame rails

Just the major mechanical stuff. There are also all sorts of other things going on.

96 LX-450. Bought in 2002 with 85K. Now 113K

Routine service (oil, plugs, etc..)
Starter Contacts

1995 LC purchased in 2001 with 126k now has 197k, best vehicle I have ever owned

regular maintenance
many windshields
many sets of brake pads
check engine light (pulled bulb rather than buy o2's and cats)
time for birfield maintenance/replacement

Well got mine at 106K it has close to 125K now done a lot of work to it but most of it was PM, normal maintenance or modifications, all I can think of that was problem driven was warped rear rotors & fuel pump relay,

Edit: Bob_Garrett's post reminded me I replaced the windshield diverter also

and also the ds Window switch (that one hurt can'tt beleive I for got it)

Pending stuff:

Yesterday noticed steering wheel shimmies a little with light braking it only goes down hill from there so front rotors are coming up. Will likely rebuild the calipers at that point also.

Oil leaks front rear and top (only the rear is more than a seep)
Antenna makes noise when stowing and has piss poor AM reception.
small ammount of water dripping out of the PS dash that I cannto trace down, not sunroof drains, might be windshield

the PO put in a weak battery, rebult pasts store alternator and starter, all at abotu the smae time, sound liek a shotgun or they had a stuck starter kill all of the above

Washed/polished/waxed with Griot's Car Care products.

No major problem and runs like a champ!

That's about it!!! (Forest Gump voice)

Bought with 98,000 miles. Currently 103,000.

Only major issue was a leaky valve cover gasket and that didn't start until I switched from Dyno to Mobil 1.

For preventitive maintenance. I baselined all the fluids including a tranny fluid exchange, redid the front axle, new rotors and pads.

And of course OME 2.5 lift, Slee skid plat and 285 tires. I guess you would call that the fun maintenance.

95 Model

Miles when purchased: 55,000
Current mileage: 141,000

Major problems: none

Minor problems:
starter contacts replaced at 100k
Windshield washer diverter valve replaced at 110k

PM's all up to date.

Repairs:
EGR vsv replaced
brakes and rotors
Antenna mast
Stock Radio
Windshield x 2
Battery (Toyota Truestart-3 years ago)
edit: Forgot starter contacts at 75k miles

Wow-thinking about it, that's it! Obviously with mods I've done a lot more than this, but these are the repairs to Toyota's original handiwork.

CJ, you started this, so now to make it really useful, you should tabulate things, something as simple as "5/35 got a serious breakdown since purchase" could do or better "5/100 breakdown/Kmiles" or somethin'....

I was thinking about getting some stats together, i was just waiting until it seemed like the new posts were slowing down.........it's doin' pretty good right now.

Since I personally had the truck was at 124k almost 125k got it Dec. 03' Now has 141k

Purchased by my family with 0 miles in 91'

So far I've had it,

Valves adjusted
Replaced front DS
New driver's side window motor
Pinion seal replaced
All seals in front axle replaced + birf repack
Replaced alternator, first time I drove through a pit hit it way to fast and all that mud and water fried it

I know my dad had gone through 2 or 3 power steering pumps due to s***ty mechanics being dishonest and not living up to their word....

Last fixings:
Brake work (pedal is soft MC seems fine)
New tie rod --Mines slightly bent so I need the width of a football field to make a U - Turn

After those last two things truck

'97 FZJ80 - Purchased Dec '03 w/ 85k on the odometer.

Truck needed the following at purchase: front bearings (the factories were dried and junk), starter contacts, and washer diverter valve.

Truck now has 98k on the odometer.

Major repairs: None
Minor repairs: Birfield repacked (is this major?)
Front disks w/ 100 series rotors
Routine "fussy new owner" maintenance (all fluids, all new belts, plugs, rotor, wiper blades).
Tires
Just replaced rear pads (wear indicator). Rear rotors were mic'd and will probably need replaced with next pads.

92 LC. Bought it with 135k miles, Now has 143k miles...
Had to replace Radiator, Front bearings, pwr steering was leaking so I bought a gasket set from the dealer and that solved the problem; Saved alot of money than buying the whole unit, Alternator broke and bought and OEM one which is expensive, had to replace the brake lines, Shocks were leaking so bought OEM ones from the dealer which was very cheap; I just couldnt afford an upgrade to an Old Man or similar. So far, thats all I have replaced. The engine and Tranny are original and very strong. You wont go wrong buying a Landcruiser
