put the 35's with flipped rims on yesterday, gave it a bit tougher stance. When i flexed it up it still had about 50 or 60 mm to go to hit the bump stops. with the lockers that should get me a few places.

Just a little update. Mounted up some VS commonwhore(VS holden commodore, Australian made sedan) seats into the cruiser for a bit more comfort. I wanted to try and keep the susopension base but it was way too high. So I ended up makigng a whole new base for them. Also I got a led replacement bulb for my standard interior light, heaps better, $15 well spent.

Well this weekend I made the bars to take the roof rack. I decided I didn't like having any weight on the FRP top gutters and I also didn't like the idea of having a bar go all the way down to my slider and one on to the bumper. So i came up with this.
Where the bar mounts to the cab there will be another 50x5mm bit of flat bar with the bolts threw it, so essentially its clamped on the panel. It's was just mocked up in the photos, I still have to make mounts for the rack and grind it all back. What do you think?

Mate you motor sounds meaty as comming out that dumper you will have to get some drive by movie shots

Well here's this weekends efforts so far.
I had the roof basket powder coated and painted the bars, I've got cables running threw both bars, the front will have 4 spotties and the back will have an LED work lamp, I should have them mounted up tommorow.
Finally got around to making up the swing aways, the left one will also have a hi lift jack mount. Just by looking at the photo then i noticed that the upright arm of the tire carries looks out of square, I'm hoping its an optical illusion because I thought I squared everything up pretty well.

Great build - thanks for sharing. I'm glad you're trying the external cage idea to mount the rack. I'm really interested in this instead of rain gutter mounts. Have you thought about any kind of diagonal bracing to keep a loaded rack from rocking the supports foward and back? It seems like it wold twist the bolts out of the sheet metal, but you have your water and fuel down low, and I'm sure it's hell for stout...just wondering.

yeah mate i thought the same thing. but with the way the mounts are done ( two pieces of flat bar, one each side of the panel then bolted together) it clamps well and give some surface area to spread the load a bit. I have given the thing a bloody good shake and it moves the cruiser with no movement in the panel. So hopefully it should be ok, it will only be light stuff up there, I'm hoping a max. of about 100kg. the tent weights about 25kg, the mattress weighs 5-10kg max, then it will be things like fishing rods, guitar, maybe some extra fuel at a stretch. So hopefully should be all good, thanks for the thought.

Well got it welded up and first coat of paint today. The tyre carrier was only 2mm out square so I left it.
Added the hi lift mount
After I test fitted a tyre to the carrier i wanted to move it up higher so here is the bodge job. should hold.
All painted up, thats the light mount on the right. It will bolt to the rack.
These are the HD tie rod and drag link I had made. 38mm solid bar, it's overkill by a bit but at least they won't bend too easy.

Had a big weekend on the tools and have only just finished cleaning up. I did the front end job which involves:
- full hub rebuild with HD kit from locktup w/marlin axle seals
- Longfield axles,cv and hub gears
- fitting rebuilt calipers
- new rotors
- magnum studs
- move axle forward 25mm
- 3 degree castor wedges
- new tie rod and drag link with new TRE's
- backing plate eliminator
- remove diff center and get lock right fitted (cheers simo)
- rock rings
I think thats all, messy stinky job so hopefully I did it right so I don't have to do it again anytime soon.
I need a bloody shed, I would have loved a hoist too, black plastic does the job for now though
pulling it all apart, diff oil smells like arse
housemate plucking his first cv
all finished, the place where i had the rods made cocked up and made them too long, didn't allow for the jamb nuts to be part of the length so i'll have to pull them off and get them re done because there is bugger all adjustment left.
It handles so much better now its unreal. The cruiser also had its first service on the motor and tidied up quite a few things and now its running like a brand new one. My new carby arrived today and i'll pick it up tommorow. happys days.

Just got back from Fraser Is. yesterday for the cruiser's first hit out after the build. Everything went well and nothing broke. The weather was bloody good and was an awsome trip. heres some photos.

heres some dead cars, they were at the Double Is. point end of rainbow beach
the cruiser posing on the beach
this is up the northern part of the island at Waddy Point, when we got there, there was a GQ,80 series and 60 series having a crack at this section with no success, it was pretty cut up and steeper than it looks in the video
all loaded up yesterday. that is all for now.

Sooooooooooo I've been a bit slack after the rush just before christmas. I've now entered a comp held at easter so i have a new deadline, thankfully this time there is alot less to do. The weekend just gone saw the rear locker go in, the rear wheel bearings done and a axle stud upgrade.
all pulled down, got azza (navvy for the comp) to give me a hand
drilling out the hubs to be tapped
