how much do you recon it'll cost to get it freighted from queensland to victoria??

any other parts laying in the back of your shed that you dont have use for? im very limited on parts down here..

No idea mate, if you organise freight I can drop it to wherever you need. Not really to many parts lying around mate, if it comes of the car it probably means it's broken.:)

Here's some pics of the light bar in the shed

I also set up a new switch panel light, it's just an LED stripe with a deflector plate made from some stainless steel sheet.

This is the new female side of the front driveshaft, Shouldn't be twisting that.

nice job on the light bar:)
and if you bend that shaft, i want to know who put your 308 together haha must be a power house:p

ill have a look tomorrow about the freight and get back to you asap:)

Had its first test run this weekend. It went really well only a few small issues. The air ram needs adjusting, some more leaves in a couple of the packs and the gas needs tuning.

Here's some poser pics, there wasn't an awful lot of difficult driving done so not many chances for action shot

Makes all the hard work/late nights pay off when ya get out and play :)

Easter is all done and we had a ball! We placed 16th out of 25 and didn't break too much. With more seat time and practice we can only improve. Here's a heap of pics mostly taken by the missus.

Well I wasn't planning on competing again this year and focus on practicing but an spot came up to enter lowmead 3 car challenge so it looks like TMS racing are going to be at it again in November. Thankfully there is not a great deal of work on the list to complete before then so that will leave more time for driving. The only major job that needs doing is sorting out a front wrap bar and replacing the front springs. I have already designed the wrap bar and ordered the heim joint just need to get it cut. I knocked most of the small items off the list this weekend I strengthened the belly plate, modified the top windscreen surround mount, adjusted the light bar, modified the spare tyre carrier, added some packing in between the roof and the cage to stop rattling and put on a late model grill and indicators.

I was having dramas with axle wrap in the front, I tried long spring perches, a load leaf in the bottom of the pack and even put the spring clamps back on and none of it was working so I have gone to the next step.

I had a mate laser cut me out an arm for me to fit under the front end, it's basically like a custom made radious arm in theory. I haven't really seen it done before and was hoping that other methods would have worked before coming to this. It doesn't hang down or too low and with the heim joint and rubber bushes I hope it won't restrict flex too much either. I suppose there is only one way to find out, test run up a waterfall this weekend hopefully.

Here's a pic from the weekends run. Front is working well still with the anti wrap bar in so I'm calling it a win at this stage.

Only a couple of days until we make the journey down to Lowmead for the 3 car comp. We had a test run last weekend which resulted in me blowing the spiders gears in the welded rear diff, no great to do 2 weeks out form the comp but better to do it then instead of in a couple of days time. My door were looking worse for wear and I had a bit of a quiet week last week too so it gave me time to have a go at making some tube doors which came out pretty good and I'm happy with them.

The fitted E-locker

In the photo I'm holding the bracket that hold the contact hub, for lack of knowing the actual term for it (where the wire goes into the mechanism). I didn't find it until I had already put the diff and axles as it was in the bag with the zip ties and it's not on the instructions anywhere so look out for that if anyone is putting an E-locker in there car.

The finished tube doors, the missus is sewing the finishing touches on the window nets next to me as I type.

Are we not good enough company for continual updates?

Know it's changed quite a bit in three years.....

Coupla questions, or clarification requests, if I may, from this era:

image.webp

Front axle is +3"
Rear axle is +4"

Wheelbase was effectively 109"

60 width "diffs" front and rear, essentially.

(Be back with frame height. Recall it being posted at 780mm but that can't be right.)

Questions:

How did the windshield hold up with no more than the two bolts at the base?

Would the top have fit?
(Know she's gone on a diet and there's no ass end, now)

Sorry mate, didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

That sounds about right mate

60 width "diffs" front and rear, essentially.
Sort of , it was 60 series diff but the front had the 2.75" slug in the short side to shift the third so the leaf spring perch would fit.

Yeah that sounds a little high, don't recall off the top of my head.

Questions:

It had tabs holding it at the top too, it was starting to weaken so I will do something sturdier this time around.

Would the top have fit?
(Know she's gone on a diet and there's no ass end, now)
It would have been close, I never tried. If I wanted to put the top back on I could have build the cage to suit it.

I'm back home from work now guys so I thought I'd go ahead and update you all on what has been happening. Sorry for not updating the thread here I sort of forgot I had it then when I remembered it was too far gone but I will do my best to fill you in and if you would like some more just go to the link here >>> http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyota-land-cruiser/1509001-middy-strength-bj73-comp-truck.html.

So basically what has happened is a complete tear down and rebuild of the Middy, with plans to run more high speed/endurance style events (ultra4 style).
Specs:
- LS1
- Built TH400
- Atlas 2 speed, 3.8 low range
-Dana 60 front- ARB, Reid inner and outer C's, upgraded axles and U joints trussed etc.
-Dana 70B rear- detroit locker, yukon axles, disc brakes. 4.56 ration front and rear
- Triangulated 4 link front and rear
-18" x 2.5" King coil overs, have mounts to run triple bypass shocks as well when funds allow
-PSC full hydraulic steering
- 37'' Creepy crawlers, will run larger when class rules allow.

I'll post a few photos of the build from the last few years so you can get a feel for it.

Thanks for watching guys, I will update as progress comes from here but photos will be posted more regularly on facebook only because its easier. Here is a link to my Facebook profile https://www.facebook.com/robert.sullivan.96387 , just let me know on here if you add me so I know you aren't a scammer.

Cheers, Rob
