Very smart move brother! Post some pics.
What tires are you planning on running?

NVM 285/7017 needs zero modification. You are in golden territory and i think you could even go a size up to be honest with that ideal of an offset.
I only rub in reverse (+25 ET) in half lock and above on front back splash guard and even then i could easily adjust it but never do its that minor.
Thanks! I will post some pics for sure. I am excited to get the wheels, was just worried about them being to big and rubbing. I have heard of others with the same wheels using KO2's that rub at 3/4 turn on the front back splash guard.

All trucks are gonna sit a bit different but whatever does rub i assure you is manageable plastic on a 285/70r17.

I'd be real surprised if you had any rubbing with a LT285/70R17. This is the same tire (KO2 even) Toyota specs on the TRD Forged 17" wheel with a ET50 offset. I suppose it's possible that 15mm of offset could get a slight rub. But if so, nothing a heat gun wouldn't be able to resolve.

We have the Baja Boss's on both the 200 and the Tundra. 295-70/17 on the 200 and 285-75/18 on the Tundra. I love how they do in the snow and ice. They are quiet and look great. We'll see on lifespan but I think a good sticky, gripping tire is the tradeoff to lifespan and I don't mind. I've owned K02's, Duratracs, Dynapros, KM3's, ST Maxx, STT Pros, and more. While many of these were good, the Baja Boss are at least tied for first place so far.

Anyone run their 255/85/17s? I've got an 05 GX470 with KDSS and 2'' Dobinsons lift and BMC on stock rims and spidertrax spacers and really want to try this tire size. But totally unsure about fitment. Narrow is good, but around 34" diameter makes me wonder if I'm going to run into problems.

Opinions on this greatly appreciated!

@dogfishlake Trucks look great with the Baja Boss AT's. I have heard that these run larger then their competition in the respective sizes. What are you seeing for measurements of the LT295/70R17 when mounted to the 200?

I didnt know this thread existed!
My 295/70/18s run right at 34.5"..... nearly identical to my old 305/70/18 KO2s

They are right at 33” measuring across the tire (horizontally) with no weight influence. Vertical with tire squish is about 32 1/4”. That’s about as “true to size” as I have seen. For comparison, my 315-75/15 KM3’s (supposed 35’s) on my 80 are the same height.

I jumped out of bed to go measure. I’ll double check in the morning just to make sure 🤣

I got my ATs on 5/11/22, and have put 4K miles on them (2k of which came from the recent LCDC trip).

We ran 3 days of trails: Red Cone (difficult- red), Deer Creek/St John (moderate - blue), and a green on the last day

Every tire has damage on the sidebiters. I called MickeyT and send them pictures, but they were a little dismissive at first. However, after messaging them on IG and explaining the situation, I got a call back and they are going to do a “courtesy” warranty on all 4 (props to the power of marketing).

Questions:
- does anyone else have this kind of damage?
- would you trust a new set of ATs, or would you switch to their Mud Terrains?

I had aired down to 18 on the trails, and the guy seems to be pushing the MT’s with different composition and constructions that might be better suited for “rock crawling”…. Or I could stick with the ATs and not air down so far - they mentioned down to 30 or so.

I would hate to lose the highway smoothness of the AT if I moved to their MTs, and I’m not sure it’s worth the switch if I’m only going to hit the trails 1 time a year.

That’s surprising to see and disappointing to say the least. I was strongly considering this tire for my next set. My Kenda Klever RTs have taking a beating traversing sharp boulders and rock gardens in the Sierra’s of CA over the last two years and their side biters are in substantially better condition. Just One tire has sidebiter damage that doesn’t even look as bad as the damage shown in your 2nd picture. I generally air down between 14-22psi depending on the terrain.

I am not sure if mud terrains would be much better. Their softer compound is much more likely to lead to chewed up lugs going over sharp terrain.

Good to hear they were responsive to inquiry/claim.

Going forward I would consider RT tires (Rugged Terrain). Yokohama and Toyo have good options or if you arnt vane you could try a noname /off brand like Kenda lol.

Thanks for sharing @radman and keeping it real.

I wonder if this is a production / batch defect in the rubber. It's not unheard of and I recall a name brand benchmark tire having early teething issues with rubber cracking. I hope so at least as these tires looked promising on first blush. Can't deny that they look the part.

Not being able to air down under 30PSI would be a deal breaker in my mind and I'm surprised that's what they attributed it to. If anything, that would put additional stress on the blocks as the tire carcass is less likely to deform?

Took a few pics showing the extend of the damage my Kenda Klever RTs have absorbed over the last couple years. Extremely pleased with how well they have held up.

I think the issues with the Mickey Baja Bosses and the damage to the side grabbers is the tread on the sidewalls is too pronounced and too "thin", and would be susceptible to tearing in real world aired down usage. Notice on the Klevers shown above, as well as many other popular off-road tires (Ridge Grapplers, BFG ATs and MTs), the side elements are fairly low and blocky. I think what you are seeing is a design issue with the Baja Bosses when used hard and aired down. I would suspect that lots of folks buy them for the aggressive sidewall look, and wouldn't ever use them hard enough to tear the side elements. It's unfortunate, as I think overall the Baja Boss ATs look like a good tire. Perhaps if I were @radman I'd take the second set and consider if the likely future damage to the sidewall elements was enough for me to want to change tires, or just live with the ugly looking tears on them when they inevitably tear again. I would not change to the Baja Boss MTs unless you already wanted an MT. The sidewall design of the MT looks to have equally thin unsupported tread elements, and I would expect them to fare about the same as the ATs did under similar usage.

Now that some time has passed, any additional experience / insights with the durability of these Baja Boss A/T's? @radman @indycole @dogfishlake @clrussell

I'm thinking of purchasing these since my Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT tires have started having severe chunking and cracking problems, even though I'm only about halfway through their treadlife.

I have a set in house for mine. I’ve yet to install though.
I look at them every day.

Ok, well, Discount Tire has ordered these for me. They're giving me some credit for my old tires (even without a "certificate", and even though I only bought 1 of the original 5 myself), so I'm getting $400 back on the trade-in after 40,000 miles.

I'll try to remember to put a long-term review on here after I've had them a while.
