This is what I am buying. Changed the oil in my son's 4Runner yesterday, and made a mess. I can use it on the wife's Lexus, too. $15 @ Amazon.
Could you share a link? I only see it for $24.95. I have a Jowett filter, but would buy one of these hoses just to have it for only $15.

Cancel that, I found the $15 one, it is from a different brand, but looks like the same idea: POWERWORKS. Part PW399-1. ASIN B088LX23ZC.

Am I missing something here? Just put a Fumoto or EZ Drain on the bottom of the Jowett and drain it like you do the oil pan. It's not rocket science. OCD individuals also may have 2, yes 2, pieces of tubing that allows draining the oil and the filter at the same time into the same drain pan.
 
@RET2 - this drain hose tool is made for the stock oil filter housing, not the Jowett. It replaces the silly plastic tool that comes with the filter that inevitably makes a mess when draining oil from the cartridge filter housing. It seems like a good tool to have on the shelf for Toyota oil changes for friends and family (even if I have a Jowett housing myself).

I used this thing changing the oil for the first time on my Tacoma. Worked great. No mess. I had a heck of a time removing the plastic filter housing which is the same as the LC. Got it off but then couldn't get the filter wrench off the filter housing. I eventually did so all good but a PITA. I check on TacomaWorld and that lead me to the metal Toyota housing discussed in this thread. I bout one from local dealer for $26. Its a no brainer on an upgrade for the Taco. Then I wondered if it would work on the LC as it sure looked like it would except for the length of the tube in the middle. Search this forum and found this thread. Love this forum.

I think the Jowett solution is great too but at a much higher cost and personally I have a mental problem with a valve that just needs a lever flipped to open and drain the oil . I'd rather unscrew a plug and screw in a the drain thingy above. But that's just me.
 
This is real ocd upgrade, will do it for my rides.

What is the correct way to mount the drain cap inside the housing beneath the spring? Mushroom up or down? Both appear to seal and both function.

My filter came apart today and I winged it. Decided on mushroom down as it doesn’t appear to affect anything internally.
 
I did my first oil change last night on my 2011. Used the Venza cartridge, power works filter drain and motivX tool and a TRD Filter. All worked great except the TRD filter. I swapped the metal cylinder from the old, cracked plastic cartridge to the metal one pretty easily but the TRD filter is loose. The old dirty one put on by the dealer fit snugly. Any thoughts?

Normal. The original filter isolates filtered from unfiltered oil by fitting on the tube tightly.. the TRD does so via the green orings at the top and bottom. If you look closely you’ll see the old filter has hard plastic in these areas.

IMO this leads to a better seal than the factory part.

Thanks. I didn't sleep too well last night thinking about potentially effing up the lubrication system.

Depends on whether the merits make sense to you. I personally feel anyone running Genuine Toyota filters will be fine, but the small increased cost for the synthetic media won me over.
 
Maybe just me, but not going to touch a thing with the oil filter on mine. The stock setup work fine. Overthinking and potential to introduce issues.
