I would think the plastic would be a better material for threading and un-threading for the housing , 2 similar materials could cross thread ?
Does the Aluminum need a longer center tube ? I rememeber reading it could need a longer tube swapped out .
Have you used any lube on the aluminum threads like a antI seize ?
Will 15620-31060 15643-31050 fit all 5.7 to 2020 ?
Maybe a little of thread ....
Has anyone done a remote located filter like Baxter Performance offers a filter setup ?
I got spoiled with my oil Tacoma 4.0 was the best And easiest filter ever .

The o-ring sits past the threads so they get lubed by motor oil. Adding anti-seize would be a very bad idea as those metallic compounds would make it into your lubrication system. Cross-threading isn't an issue due to the size of the threads and the filter having to go straight into the housing.. plus the oil I mentioned.

The stock filter is actually a very good system, I see no need to add the complexity and failure possibility of a remote filter.

Buy the part, move over your longer filter tube and carefully bend the steel tabs back into place, and run it. It'll probably outlast the rest of the engine.

I investigated a remote filter around 5 years ago when I first got the 200. Manufacturers' and sellers' had varied answers about thread sizes to connect to the block. I passed.

My next oil and filter change to the Brian's part will be a week or so from now.

If you cant get a Jowett, the Venza metal filter holder is a great alternative. Also, if you dont like the plastic toyota drain tool, try this. I got one to use on our other toyotas, and it works great. Between the fumoto valve on the pan, and this tool for the filter, diy oil changes are a lot neater.

Hey guys - I just changed my oil and put in the trd filter. It definitely is loose and slightly longer than the oem filter in the housing. Is this an issue? was it the same for you guys? Thanks!

Same for me.

I'm assuming the TRD filter works fine with Jowett? When I did a test fitment with the Jowett and TRD, it seemed loose and longer so I ended up putting in the Toyota OEM filter in the Jowett housing. I'm now ready for another oil change and want to use the TRD filter that I have laying around. Part #PTR43-00081

The TRD filter works correctly in the BJowett filter housing.
I just ordered the full Jowett set up. I also ordered two trd filters and two oil drain plug gaskets. I have two dumb questions. 1) do I use the oil drain plug gaskets with the ez drain oil pan valve from jowett or do I just install the ez drain oil pan valve directly using proper torque? 2) do I have to buy a Toyota filter housing removal tool to get the OEM filter housing off?

I think the answers to the above are 1) I do not need the oil drain plug gaskets with the ez oil pan drain valve and 2) I do need the Toyota filter housing removal tool for the OEM filter housing.

I appreciate the help and denying or confirming my thoughts. I am a newbie and learning one step at a time.

I didn't use a Toyota gasket on the Fumoto valve. I think it comes with an o-ring on it, but I don't recall for sure. I doesn't drip or leak though. Yes, ideally you'd have the Toyota factory style filter wrench to remove the factory filter housing. The Jowett filter doesn't use the factory filter tool, it has it's own very large socket (available from BJowett or on Amazon if he's out of stock). Since you're only using it once and then replacing it with the Jowett, it sure seems wasteful to buy one for one time use. I wish you were nearby, I'd just lend you one of mine. Is there anyone on here or a local 4x4 club from your area that would loan you the factory style filter wrench for a one time use?

Thanks Charlie! Appreciate your help. I will look into that before I buy one. Might be able to rent one from autozone or oreilly also. Take care!
