Hello everyone! I’ve been lurking for awhile and this is my first post here. I’ve had no luck finding any answers.

Can anyone tell me what this part does? While inspecting the trans to try fix a code I found a piece of metal wire hanging from this metal spring loaded button. The button is recessed in this hexagon shaped housing. Each face of the hexagon has a hole that allows a cotter pin to be inserted which holds the button pushed in. Can anyone tell me what this button does? And whether or not I should have it pushed in? As of now, I have inserted that metal wire back into place, holding the button pushed in. Picture will be attached. Its a 2013 LX. Thanks guys!
